Estimation of statistical time-to-cure in cancer patients

2019

Three million people are living in France with a personal past of cancer and undergo difficulties in accessing loans and insurance. Since 2016, the French law « modernisation de notre système de santé » set the "right to be forgotten" (time beyond which insurance applicants with a past of cancer will no longer have to declare it) at 10 years after the end of treatment. From a statistical point of view, this delay can be considered as the time from which mortality due to cancer (excess mortality) disappears. After this time, the net survival curves reach a plateau corresponding to the proportion of cured patients. The verification of this hypothesis is based on two criteria: a negligible exc…

2016

Simulation and Early Warning System (SEWS) is a powerful tool for river water quality monitoring. Mudan River, an important river in northeastern cold regions of China, can run out of China into Russia. Thus, the water quality of Mudan River is highly concerned not only locally andregionally but also internationally. Objective of this study is to establish an excellent SEWS of water quality so that the spatio-temporal distribution of water quality in both open-water and ice-covered periods can be accurately simulated and visualized to understand the spatial variation of pollutants along the river course. The dissertation is structured into 7 chapters, chapter 1 outlines the background of th…

Student Learning in Public and Private Primary Schools in Madagascar

2003

03058; International audience; This article examines the progress of primary education in Madagascar. The challenge facing policy makers is enormous: how to maintain (or indeed, improve) learning across schools within Madagascar based on the data from the Conference des Ministries de l'Education des Pays Ayant le Francais en Partage in five African countries where common tests were administered to second- and fifth-graders. Beyond documenting the aggregate differences across sectors, the extent to which differences across schools, particularly between those in the public and private sectors, are associated with pupils' socioeconomic background, difference sin school inputs, and gaps across …

Accumuler le capital humain tout au long de la vie: Quels facteurs prédictifs de la participation à la formation permanente?

2003

This article addresses the main predictors of adult education, using statistical methods different from those generally used by social science researchers. Its aim is twofold. First, it seeks to explain in a simple and comprehensible manner the methodological value of these methods (in relation to the use of structural models); secondly, it demonstrates the concrete usefulness of these methods on the basis of a recent piece of research on the data from the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS).

Les modèles de simulation pour la planification de l'éducation en Afrique subsaharienne. Une simplicité appauvrissante et inféconde

2014

More than elsewhere, the issues covering educational planning are important in sub-Saharan Africa. Simulation models are the main tool of this type of planning. Most were designed or inspired by the World Bank or UNESCO. Yet, these models are too simplistic. This simplicity is a choice, although it is badly argued. The resulting vagueness is totally unacceptable, although imperceptible due to the simplicity of the models, which are not testable by facts. The simulation models are thus a sham and African educational systems continue to suffer grave imbalance in the allocation of resources. The conception of quality models, designed with a genuine concern to guide action, is possible and urge…

Comportement en cours d'études et accès à l'emploi

1984

The influence of students behaviour patterns on their subsequent employment. The economics of education has largely focused upon the respective infuences of education ans abilities on earnings. Nevertheless, although the concept of ability has always concerned inetlligence, research has shown that behaviour variables are very important to explain differences. Indirect evidence on this is also given by the fact that the variance of earnings at each givent level of education is high. This paper attempts to show that within a population of a given level of education who enters into primary labour market, employment status will be linked with the behavioural patterns of individuals. Moreover, the…
