A highly enantioselective abiotic receptor for malate dianion in aqueous solution
2006
The highly enantioselective molecular recognition of the malate dianion by a synthetic receptor in aqueous solution has been studied by potentiometric titrations, mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), diffusion measurements (PGSE NMR) and molecular modeling. Synthesis, reactivity, and computational analysis of halophosphines supported by dianionic guanidinate ligands.
2012
The reported chemistry and reactivity of guanidinate supported group 15 elements in the +3 oxidation state, particularly phosphorus, is limited when compared to their ubiquity in supporting metallic elements across the periodic table. We have synthesized a series of chlorophosphines utilizing homo- and heteroleptic (dianionic)guanidinates and have completed a comprehensive study of their reactivity. Most notable is the reluctancy of these four-membered rings to form the corresponding N-heterocyclic phosphenium cations, the tendency to chemically and thermally eliminate carbodiimide, and the scarcely observed ring expansion by insertion of a chloro(imino)phosphine into a P-N bond of the P-N-…
Sterically geared tris-thioureas; transmembrane chloride transporters with unusual activity and accessibility
2015
Tris-N-arylthioureas derived in one step from 1,3,5-tris(aminomethyl)-2,4,6-triethylbenzene are remarkably effective anion carriers. With optimised aryl substituents their activities come close to the best currently known, suggesting that they might find use as readily available standards in anion transport research.
The Crucial Role of Polyatomic Anions in Molecular Architecture: Structural And Magnetic Versatility of Five Nickel(II) Complexes Derived from A N,N,…
2009
Five new nickel(II) complexes [Ni(2)L(2)(N(3))(2)(H(2)O)(2)] (1), [Ni(2)L(2)(NO(3))(2)] (2), [Ni(2)L(2)(O(2)CPh)(CH(3)OH)(2)]ClO(4).0.5CH(3)OH (3), [Ni(3)L(2)(O(2)CPh)(4)] (4), and [Ni(2)L(2)(NO(2))(2)](n) (5) have been synthesized by using a tridentate Schiff base ligand, HL (2-[(3-Methylamino-propylimino)-methyl]-phenol), and the polyatomic monoanions N(3)(-), NO(3)(-), PhCOO(-), or NO(2)(-). The complexes have been structurally and magnetically characterized. The structural analysis reveals that in all five complexes, the Ni(II) ions possess a distorted octahedral geometry. Complexes 1 and 2 are dinuclear with di-mu-1,1-azido and di-mu(2)-phenoxo bridges, respectively. Complex 3 is also …
Attachment of chloride anion to sugars: mechanistic investigation and discovery of a new dopant for efficient sugar ionization/detection in mass spec…
2012
International audience; A new method for efficient ionization of sugars in the negative-ion mode of electrospray mass spectrometry is presented. Instead of using strongly hydrophobic dopants such as dichloromethane or chloroform, efficient ionization of sugars has been achieved by using aqueous HCl solution for the first time. This methodology makes it possible to use hydrophilic dopants, which are more appropriate for chromatographic separation techniques with efficient sugar ionization and detection in mass spectrometry. The interaction between chloride anions and monosaccharides (glucose and galactose) was studied by DFT in the gas phase and by implementing the polarizable continuum mode…
Pyrano[2,3-e]isoindol-2-ones, new angelicin heteroanalogues
2009
A convenient synthesis of the pyrano[2,3-e]isoindol-2-one ring system, an heteroanalogue of angelicin, is reported. Our synthetic approach consists of the annelation of the pyran ring on the isoindole moiety using 5-dialkylamino- or 5-hydroxymethylene intermediates as building blocks. The photoantiproliferative activity of the new derivatives was studied. Some of them bearing the benzyl group at the 8 position were active with IC(50) in the micromolar range. Cell cytotoxicity involves apoptosis, alteration of cell cycle profile and membrane photodamage.
Synthesis, characterization and the first crystal structure of the Zn(II) complex of 4,6-O-ethylidine-N-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-β-D-glucopyranosylamine
2001
4,6-O-Ethylidine-N-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-β-D-glucopyranosylamine (H3L1) and N-(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene-4,6-O-ethylidine-β-D-glucopyranosylamine (H3L2) molecules possessing a–C-1–N=C(H)–moiety for metal-ion binding were synthesized by condensing the 4,6–O–ethylidene–β–D–glucopyranosylamine with salicylaldehyde or 5–bromosalicylaldehyde. Complexes of these ligands with Zn(II) were isolated and characterized using elemental analysis, FTIR, UV–Vis absorption, NMR spectroscopic and FAB mass spectrometric techniques. The structure of the Zn(II) complex derived from H3L1 was established for the first time by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The anomeric nature of the saccharide moie…
Sequestering aromatic molecules with a spin-crossover Fe(II) microporous coordination polymer.
2012
All in a spin: A series of three-dimensional porous coordination polymer {Fe(dpe)[Pt(CN)(4)]}⋅G (dpe = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene; G = phenazine, anthracene, or naphthalene) exhibiting spin crossover and host-guest functions is reported. The magnetic properties of the framework are very sensitive to the chemical nature (aromatic or hydroxilic solvents) and the size of the included guest molecules.
Dendron to central core S1-S1 and S2-S(n) (n1) energy transfers in artificial special pairs containing dendrimers with limited numbers of conformatio…
2013
Two dendrimers consisting of a cofacial free-base bisporphyrin held by a biphenylene spacer and function- alized with 4-benzeneoxomethane (5-(4-benzene)tri-10,15,20-(4-n-octyl- benzene)zinc(II)porphyrin) using either five or six of the six available meso-positions, have been synthesized and characterized as models for the an- tenna effect in Photosystems I and II. The presence of the short linkers, -CH2O-, and long C8H17 soluble side chains substantially reduces the number of conformers (foldamers) compared with classic dendrimers built with longer flexible chains. This simpli- fication assists in their spectroscopic and photophysical analysis, notably with respect to fluorescence resonance…
Intramolecular electronic excitation energy transfer in donor∕acceptor dyads studied by time and frequency resolved single molecule spectroscopy
2008
Electronic excitation energy transfer has been studied by single molecule spectroscopy in donor/acceptor dyads composed of a perylenediimide donor and a terrylenediimide acceptor linked by oligo(phenylene) bridges of two different lengths. For the shorter bridge (three phenylene units) energy is transferred almost quantitatively from the donor to the acceptor, while for the longer bridge (seven phenylene units) energy transfer is less efficient as indicated by the occurrence of donor and acceptor emission. To determine energy transfer rates and efficiencies at the single molecule level, several methods have been employed. These comprise time-correlated single photon counting techniques at r…
