Copper complexes modelling the interaction between benzolamide and Cu-substituted carbonic anhydrase. Crystal structure of Cu(bz)(NH3)4 complex

1998

New copper benzolamide (H 2 bz, 5-phenylsulfonamide-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide) complexes with ammonia, diethylentriamine (dien) and dipropylentriamine (dipn) have been prepared. The complex [Cu(bz)(NH 3 ) 4 ] crystallises in the monoclinic space group P 2 1 / n with a = 7.621(3), b = 19.91(5), c = 11.291(3) A, β = 93.17(4)° and Z = 4. The Cu(II) is five-coordinated with an almost regular square pyramidal geometry. The dideprotonated sulfonamide behaves as monodentate ligand interacting with the metal ion through the N atom of the unsubstituted sulfonamide group. In the EPR spectrum, exchange coupling between Cu(II) polyhedra of different orientations in the unit cell is observed. The …

Fast determination of prominent carotenoids in tomato fruits by CEC using methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns.

2007

In this study, the major carotenoids (beta-carotene and lycopene) present in tomato fruits were analyzed by CEC with a methacrylate ester-based monolithic column. The effects of the porogenic solvent ratio, and the hydrophobicity of bulk monomer employed were examined on carotenoids separations. A fast separation of these analytes was achieved in less than 5.0 min in a mobile phase containing 35% THF, 30% ACN, 30% methanol, and 5% of a 5 mM Tris aqueous buffer, pH 8, with lauryl methacrylate-based monoliths. The CEC method was evaluated in terms of detection limit and reproducibility (retention time, area, and column preparation) with values below 1.6 microg/mL and 7.2%, respectively. The p…

Synthesis of Trisaccharides by Hetero-Diels–Alder Welding of Two Monosaccharide Units

2012

A new strategy for the synthesis of di- and trisaccharides based on the de novo synthesis of the linking saccharide unit is presented. In this strategy, functionalized monosaccharide building blocks already incorporating the glycosidic linkages are welded together using a metal-catalyzed hetero-Diels–Alder (HDA) reaction to generate a new monosaccharide unit between them. The highest yields and selectivities in the HDA reaction were obtained by using chiral Schiff base chromium complexes. Disaccharide products were accessible by reaction of Danishefsky's diene with acetyl- and benzyl-protected galactoside aldehydes. For the synthesis of trisaccharide products, acetyl-protected glucose or ga…

Reduction of the aluminum iodide AlI2AriPr8 (1; AriPr8 = C6H-2,6-(C6H2-2,4,6-Pri3)2-3,5-Pri2) with 5% w/w Na/NaCl in hexanes gave a dark red solution from which the monomeric alanediyl :AlAriPr8 (2) was isolated in ca. 28% yield as yellow-orange crystals. Compounds 1 and 2 were characterized by X-ray crystallography, electronic and NMR spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations. The Al atom in 2 is one-coordinate, and the compound displays two absorptions in its electronic spectrum at 354 and 455 nm. It reacts with H2 under ambient conditions to give the aluminum hydride {AlH(μ-H)AriPr8}2, probably via a weakly bound dimer of 2 as an intermediate.

Synthesis, crystal structure and molecular conformation of the tBuCO-D,L-Ala-Δz-Phe-NhiPr α,β-unsaturated dipeptide

2009

The crystal structure of the tBuCO-D,L-Ala-delta Z-Phe-NHiPr dipeptide has been solved by X-ray diffraction. The peptide crystallizes in monoclinic space group P2(1)/c with a = 13.445 (3) A, b = 35.088 (4) A, c = 14.755 (3) A, beta = 116.73 (1) degree, Z = 12 and dc = 1.151 g.cm-3. The three independent molecules per asymmetric unit accommodate a beta II-folded conformation, but only one of them contains the typical i + 3----i interaction characterizing a beta-turn. In the other two molecules, the N...O distance exceeds 3.2 A, a value generally considered the upper limit for hydrogen bonds in peptides. In solution, the beta II-turn conformation is largely predominant.

Glycoside synthesis via electrophile-induced activation of N-allyl carbamates

1993

Abstract O-Benzyl-, O-acyl-, N-acyl- and isopropylidene-protected glycosyl N-allylcarbamates, obtained from anomerically unprotected monosaccharides and allyl isocyanate, are activated by an electrophile-induced cyclisation and react with hydroxyl compounds to form the corresponding glycosides.

On the behaviour of the (Z)-Phenylhydrazones of some 5-alkyl-3-benzoyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles in solution and in the gas phase: kinetic and spectrometric …

2008

Abstract Rate constants, k A,R , for the rearrangement of the ( Z )-phenylhydrazones ( 1a – e ) of a series of 5-alkyl-3-benzoyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles substituted at C(5) with linear alkyl chains of different length (from C 4 up to C 12 ) into the relevant 4-acylamino-2,5-diphenyl-1,2,3-triazoles ( 2a – e ) have been measured in dioxan/water in the base-catalyzed region (pS + 10.5–12.6). For each substrate log  k A,R are linearly related to pS + . The significant decrease of the slopes of these straight lines (from 0.96 down to 0.78) upon increasing the length of the linear alkyl chain at C(5) and that of the reactivity (down to 14–26%) upon increasing the substrate concentration suggest a decr…

A continuous reaction system to investigate dispersion polymerization of vinyl monomers in supercritical carbon dioxide

2006

A laboratory-scale continuous reaction system using a stirred tank reac- tor was assembled in our laboratory to study the dispersion polymerization of vinyl monomers in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). The apparatus was equipped with a suitable downstream separation section to collect solid particles entrained in the effluent stream from the reactor, whose monomer concentration could be measured online with a gas chromatograph. The dispersion polymerization of methyl methacry- late in scCO2 was selected as a model process to be investigated in the apparatus. The experiments were performed at 65 8C and 25 MPa with 2,2 0 -azobisisobutyroni- trile as the initiator and a reactive polysilox…

Polymerization of vinylidene fluoride with perfluoropolyether surfactants in supercritical carbon dioxide as a dispersing medium

2006

The heterogeneous polymerization of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) was investigated at 50 °C with supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ) as a dispersing medium and diethylperoxidicarbonate as an initiator in the presence of different perfluoropolyether surfactants. When FLK 7004A ammonium carboxylate salts were used at a 5% (w/w) concentration with respect to VDF, with an initial pressure of 31-45 MPa and with an olefin concentration of about 5.5 mol/L, monomer conversions up to 63% were obtained, corresponding to a final solid content higher than 200 g/L, and the polymer was collected at the end of the process in the form of a white powder completely composed of microspheres. The effects of the…

Wetting of mesoscopic soft cylinders: structure and layering transitions.

1998

The wetting of soft mesoscopic long-chain particles is studied. As a model system, a cylindrical brush with poly(vinyl)pyridine side chains on the water surface is characterized by isotherms and x-ray reflectivity. The forces from the two planar interfaces and the intra- and interparticle interactions are all of comparable magnitude. Two layering transitions occur, one from the monolayer to the double layer, the next to a homogeneous multilayer. The hard wall from which layering starts is the smooth polymer/air interface. Indeed, they particles in the top layer of both the double- and the multilayer have their cylinder axis parallel to the surface and are laterally compressed. In contrast, …
