This chapter discusses the importance of different types of early language education in the public system according to national policy in two geopolitical contexts: Continental Northern Europe and the UK. We define early language education policy as the language policies in early childhood education (ECE) including planning, practices, and ideologies related to the teaching and learning of languages. We present a variety of theoretical approaches and discuss their applicability to the field of early language education research. Revisiting corpus creation and analysis tools for translation tasks

Many translation scholars have proposed the use of corpora to allow professional translators to produce high quality texts which read like originals. Yet, the diffusion of this methodology has been modest, one reason being the fact that software for corpora analyses have been developed with the linguist in mind, which means that they are generally complex and cumbersome, offering many advanced features, but lacking the level of usability and the specific features that meet translators’ needs. Šajā pētījumā tika veikta biznesa terminu vārdnīcu šķirkļa struktūras analīze. Pētījuma mērķis bija analizēt un salīdzināt šķirkļa struktūru biznesa terminu vārdnīcās drukātajā un elektroniskajā vidē, lai parādītu atšķirības starp tām. Šajā pētījumā tika pielietotas literatūras apskata un šķirkļa struktūras satura analīzes metodes. Rezultāti ir parādījuši, ka ir daudz atšķirību starp drukātās vides un elektroniskās vides biznesa terminu vārdnīcām, tai starpā informācijas daudzveidības ziņā. Korpusa datu izmantošana mūsdienu mācību vārdnīcās angļu valodā

Mūsdienu leksikogrāfijā liela nozīme tiek piešķirta dažādiem korpusa izmantošanas paņēmieniem. Korpuss atklāj raksturīgākās valodas iezīmes un sniedz informāciju par noteiktu vārdu un frāžu leksiskajām pazīmēm. Bakalaura darbā pētīta korpusa datu izmantošana Longman, Oxford un Macmillan mācību vārdnīcās angļu valodā. Salīdzinošā analīze tika pielietota, lai salīdzinātu korpusa datu izmantošanu izvēlētajās vārdnīcās. Pētījuma rezultāti norādīja, ka korpusa datu izmantošana izvēlētajās vārdnīcās atšķiras diezgan pamanāmi, papildus tam rezultāti pierādīja, ka korpuss ir neaizstājama mūsdienu leksikogrāfijas sastāvdaļa. The image of the monolingual dictionary across Europe. Results of the European Survey of Dictionary use and Culture

The article presents the results of a survey on dictionary use in Europe, focusing on general monolingual dictionaries. The survey is the broadest survey of dictionary use to date, covering close to 10,000 dictionary users (and non-users) in nearly thirty countries. Our survey covers varied user groups, going beyond the students and translators who have tended to dominate such studies thus far. The survey was delivered via an online survey platform, in language versions specific to each target country. It was completed by 9,562 respondents, over 300 respondents per country on average.
