Lixisenatide in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Acute Coronary Syndrome
2015
BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are higher among patients with type 2 diabetes, particularly those with concomitant cardiovascular diseases, than in most other populations. We assessed the effects of lixisenatide, a glucagon-like peptide 1-receptor agonist, on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes who had had a recent acute coronary event.METHODS: We randomly assigned patients with type 2 diabetes who had had a myocardial infarction or who had been hospitalized for unstable angina within the previous 180 days to receive lixisenatide or placebo in addition to locally determined standards of care. The trial was designed with adequate statistical power to …
Cohort Profile: the EPI-CT study: a European pooled epidemiological study to quantify the risk of radiation-induced cancer from paediatric CT
2018
International audience; •The multinational EPI-CT study was set-up in 2011 to provide direct estimates of risk of solid tumours and leukaemia among children and young adults who underwent computed tomography (CT) scanning and to consolidate the scientific basis for optimization of paediatric CT protocols and patient protection.•Under a common protocol, cohort studies were conducted in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, coordinated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). •The study recruited a total of about 950,000 patients having undergone at least one CT-scan before the age of 22 years. A total of 8.7 millio…
Trends of maxillofacial trauma: An update from the prospective register of a multicenter study in emergency services of Chile
2019
Background Determine the behavior of the maxillofacial trauma of adults treated in 3 tertiary care centers in the central zone of Chile. Material and Methods Descriptive, cross-sectional, multicenter study, based on the prospective records of maxillofacial trauma cases attended between May 2016 and April 2017 by dental and maxillofacial clinical teams of Adult Emergency Units of hospitals Dr. Sótero del Río (metropolitan region), Carlos Van Buren and Dr. Gustavo Fricke (region V). Age, sex, date of occurrence, type of trauma according to ICD-10, etiology, legal medical prognosis and associated injuries were recorded, stratifying by sex and age. Chi square and unpaired Wilcoxon tests were us…
Positive Predictive Value of French Hospitalization Discharge Codes for Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack.
2015
Background: We aimed at measuring the positive predictive value (PPV) of data in the French Hospital Medical Information Database (FHD). Summary: This retrospective multicenter study included 31 hospitals from where 56 hospital stays were randomly selected among all hospitalizations for the years 2009 and 2010 with at least 1 principal diagnosis of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). Three algorithms were evaluated. Algorithm 1 selected discharge abstracts with at least 1 principal diagnosis identified by one of the relevant International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision codes. Algorithm 2 selected s…

LATE-ONSET OCULAR HYPERTENSION AFTER VITRECTOMY: A Multicenter Study of 6,048 Eyes
2018
Purpose: To determine the incidence and risk factors for late-onset ocular hypertension (LOH) after vitrectomy. Methods: From the electronic medical records of consecutive patients who underwent primary vitrectomy, from January 2010 to December 2015, at 5 tertiary vitreoretinal centers in Italy, patient demographics, systemic, ophthalmic, operative, and postoperative data were drawn. Main outcome measure was the presence of LOH, defined as intraocular pressure >21 mmHg detected more than 2 months after vitrectomy on at least 2 consecutive visits. Results: Among 6,048 patients, LOH was found in 294 (4.9%) vitrectomized eyes and in 87 (1.4%) fellow eyes, (chi square; P < 0.001). Multiva…
Non-readmission decisions in the intensive care unit under French rules: A nationwide survey of practices.
2018
International audience; Purpose: We investigated, using a multicentre survey of practices in France, the practices of ICU physicians concerning the decision not to readmit to the ICU, in light of current legislation.Materials and methods: Multicentre survey of practices among French ICU physicians via electronic questionnaire in January 2016. Questions related to respondents’ practices regarding re-admission of patients to the ICU and how these decisions were made. Criteria were evaluated by the health care professionals as regards importance for non-readmission.Results: In total, 167 physicians agreed to participate, of whom 165 (99%) actually returned a completed questionnaire from 58 ICU…
Overall survival in mCPRC patients treated with Radium-223 in association with bone health agents: a national multicenter study
2020
Radium-223 has demonstrated efficacy in improving overall survival (OS) and in delaying symptomatic skeletal-related events (SREs). Bone Health Agents (BHA), i.e. RANK ligand inhibitor (Denosumab) and bisphosphonate such as zoledronic acid, are indicated to prevent SREs without a clear survival benefit. SREs on patient health have a high impact and it is, therefore, important to consider the role of new therapies with BHA to better understand the involvement of combination therapy. The primary aim of this multicentric study is to assess OS in mCRPC patients treated with Radium-223 in combination with BHA.430 consecutive patients treated with Radium-223 alone or in combination with BHA, affe…
Radium-223 in mCPRC patients: a large real-life Italian multicenter study
2020
Background Radium-223 is a targeted alpha-particles therapy approved for the treatment of mCRPC patients with symptomatic bone metastases. To our knowledge we account for the largest cohort of mCRPC patients subjected to Radium-223 treatment in our country. We aim to describe in a real-life setting the largest cohort of mCRPC patients treated with Radium-223 ever taken into consideration. Methods 430 consecutive mCRPC patients were enrolled. Clinical data have been collected at baseline and at the end of the Radium-223 treatment. Furthermore, the overall survival(OS) of our population has been provided. Results 157 patients (36.5%) were still alive at the time of data analysis. A mean numbe…
