We propose a low complexity analog joint source channel coding Multiple Description (MD) scheme for transmitting the symbols of a Gaussian source across a pair of independent AWGN channels. The outputs of these channels have each a separated receiver, whereas a third receiver has both outputs available. At the transmitter side, a pair of bandwidth-reduction analog mappings are used for joint source-channel coding. 13C NMR study on the methoxy carbon chemical shifts in chloro-substituted anisoles and guaiacols

The 13C NMR chemical shifts of methoxy carbons in chlorinated anisoles and guaiacols have been measured for acetone-d6 solutions. Multiple linear regression analysis, and also ‘simple sum rule’ calculations, have been used to estimate the effects of the chlorine atoms (the position and degree of substitution) on the chemical shifts. The most important effects have shown to be due to the chlorine atoms adjacent to the methoxy and hydroxy substituents. For chlorinated guaiacols, the greatest effect is due to the chlorine atom adjacent to the methoxy group. Abstract Multidrug-resistant bacterial infections are a global health threat. Nanoparticles are thus investigated as novel antibacterial agents for clinical practice, including wound dressings and implants. We report that nanoparticles' bactericidal activity strongly depends on their physical binding to pathogens, including multidrug-resistant primary clinical isolates, such as Staphylococcus aureus , Klebsiella pneumoniae or Enterococcus faecalis . The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of sesquiterpene coumarins of Ferula gummosa fruits on P-glycoprotein (P-gp)–mediated MDR. Drimane-type sesquiterpene coumarins from the fruits of F. gummosa were extracted with dichloromethane and subjected to column chromatography. Th17 cells, known as a highly pro-inflammatory subtype of Th cells, are involved very early in numerous aspects of multiple sclerosis (MS) and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) neuropathology. A crucial event for the formation and accumulation of MS lesions is represented by the disruption of the blood brain barrier (BBB) in relapsing-remitting MS. Collateral sensitivity is a term for the hypersensitivity of otherwise drug-resistant cells. The selective killing of tumor cells by drugs exerting collateral sensitivity might be used as a novel treatment strategy. In this chapter, we give an overview on drug resistance phenotypes with known collateral sensitivities; furthermore, their molecular and cellular mechanisms were discussed to explain mediation of these hypersensitivities.
