All-optical regeneration of polarization of a 40 Gbit/s return-to-zero telecommunication signal

2013

International audience; We report all-optical regeneration of the state of polarization of a 40 Gbit/s return-to-zero telecommunication signal. The device discussed here consists of a 6.2-km-long nonzero dispersion-shifted fiber, with low polarization mode dispersion, pumped from the output end by a backward propagating wave coming from either an external continuous source or a reflection of the signal. An initially scrambled signal acquires a degree of polarization close to 100% toward the polarization generator output. All-optical regeneration is confirmed by means of polarization and bit-error-rate measurements as well as real-time observation of the eye diagrams. We show that the physic…

Combining super-orthogonal space-frequency trellis coding, constellation shaping by shell mapping, and OFDM for high data rate broadband mobile commu…

2014

In this paper, we seamlessly combine three transmission techniques to design an improved performance broadband mobile communication system with two transmit antennas. In so doing, we took inspiration from the V.34 data modem toolbox designed for public switched telephone network. We modified the constellation shaping by shell mapping algorithm to apply it only to the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) frame sent by the first antenna, in such a way that the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is also reduced for the second antenna. We use a 24-point quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signal constellation on each subcarrier, while the reference system employs 16 QAM for the s…

Reducing the peak and average power for OFDM systems using QAM by constellation shaping

2009

In this paper, we present a shell mapping scheme to reduce the peak and average power of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals using quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) by constellation shaping. Our approach can be considered as an extension of the shell mapping technique introduced originally in the V.34 recommendation of ITU-T. The shell mapping method uses multiple cost functions, each having the OFDM block length N as a parameter. The cost functions are presented in closed form for any N. The main advantage of the proposed scheme is that the peak and average power can be reduced without sacrificing the data rate, and no side information is needed at the receive sid…

Implementation of Universal Digital Architecture using 3D-NoC for Mobile Terminal

2014

International Conference on Control, Decision and Information Technologies (CoDIT), Ecole Natl Ingenieurs Metz, Metz, FRANCE, NOV 03-05, 2014; International audience; The need to integrate multiple wireless communication protocols into a single low-cost flexible hardware platform is prompted by the increasing number of emerging communication protocols and applications in modern embedded systems. So the current challenge is to design of new digital architectures, in addition to its ability to take over of many functions. In this paper we have identified similarities between the despreader units in Rake receiver and the processor element in FFT-SDF (Fast Fourier Transform-Single path Delay Fe…

Assignment of the group A rotavirus NSP4 gene into genotypes using a hemi-nested multiplex PCR assay: a rapid and reproducible assay for strain surve…

2009

The rotavirus non-structural protein NSP4 has been implicated in a number of biological functions during the rotavirus cellular cycle and pathogenesis, and has been addressed as a target for vaccine development. The NSP4 gene has been classified into six genotypes (A–F). A semi-nested triplex PCR was developed for genotyping the major human NSP4 genotypes (A–C), which are common in human rotavirus strains but are also shared among most mammalian rotavirus strains. A total of 192 previously characterized human strains representing numerous G and P type specificities (such as G1P[8], G1P[4], G2P[4], G3P[3], G3P[8], G3P[9], G4P[6], G4P[8], G6P[4], G6P[9], G6P[14], G8P[10], G8P[14], G9P[8], G9P…

Fault Tolerant Routing Methodology for Mesh-of-Tree based Network-on-Chips using Local Reconfiguration

2018

Increase in the processing elements in a System-on- Chip (SoC) has led to an increasing complexity between the cores in the entire network. This communication bottleneck led to rise in the new paradigm called Network-on-Chip (NoC). These NoC are very much susceptible to various types of faults which can be transient, intermittent or permanent. This paper presents a fault-tolerant routing technique which can route the packets from a source to a destination in presence of permanent faults in the leaf routers of Mesh-of-Tree topology where cores are connected. This is achieved by using reconfiguration in the local ports of the leaf routers by inserting multiplexers as a layer between the leaf …

Architectural Implementation of a Reconfigurable NoC Design for Multi-Applications

2021

With the increasing number of applications running on a Network-on-Chip (NoC) based System-on-Chip (SoC), there is a need for designing a reconfigurable NoC platform to achieve acceptable performance for all the applications. This paper proposes a novel architecture for implementing a reconfiguration logic to the NoC platform executing multiple applications. The proposed architecture reconfigures SoC modules to the routers in the NoC with the help of tri-state buffers based on the applications running. The overhead in implementing the reconfiguration circuitry is significantly less, approximately 0.9% of the area and 1% of the total power consumed by the router network. The architectures pr…

Low energy routing platforms for optical interconnects using active plasmonics integrated with Silicon Photonics

2013

Power consumption and bandwidth of electronics appear as the main set of technology barriers in next-generation Data Center and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. The limited capacity and pitch lane of electrically wired interconnects require the development of new disruptive technologies to cope with the massive amount of data moving across all hierarchical communication levels, namely rack-to-rack, backplane, chip-to-chip and even on-chip interconnections. Plasmonics comes indeed as a disruptive technology that enables seamless interoperability between light beams and electronic control signals through the underlying metallic layer, providing thereby an inherent energy-efficie…

Assignment of Roles and Channels for a Multichannel MAC in Wireless Mesh Networks

2009

International audience; A multichannel MAC improves throughput in wireless mesh networks by multiplexing transmissions over orthogonal channels. In this paper, we propose an efficient way for constructing the wireless mesh structure associated with Molecular MAC, a multichannel MAC layer designed for efficient packet forwarding. Molecular MAC outperforms other classical approaches, but requires a specific structure for efficient operation. First, we propose a centralized protocol that provides an upper bound for constructing such a molecular structure through a MILP (Mixed Integer Linear Programming) formulation that maximizes network capacity. Then, we present two distributed self-stabiliz…
