Determination of selected phthalates by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry in mural paintings from Palermo (Italy)
2013
Abstract Phthalate esters for decades, and probably even now, were used as softeners in water-based paintings. In general, these compounds are dangerous owing to their carcinogenicity and reproductive effects. Phthalates are not chemically but only physically bound to the matrices, hence, they may be leached into the environment and are ubiquitously found in environmental matrices. Considering that, construction is one of most important fields in Europe, and probably worldwide, with respect to its economic, technological and environmental impact. In the present work the phthalate esters content of several mural paintings was evaluated by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Because…
In vitro multiplication ofVella lucentina M. B. crespo (Brassicaceae), a threatened Spanish endemic species
1995
Vella lucentina M. B. Crespo is a threatened Spanish species that is endemic to a small area in eastern Alicante Province (SE Spain). Micropropagation techniques were applied forex situ conservation of this plant. Aseptic epicotyls bearing the apical bud were grown in Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 6-furfurylaminopurine (Kin), N6-benzyladenine (BA) or 6-(γ,γ,-dimethilalylamino) purine (2iP). High multiplication rates were obtained with 0.5, 1, or 2 mg·liter−1 BA, or 1 or 2 mg·liter−1 2iP. Indole-3-acetic acid and indole-3-butyric acid were utilized for rooting in half-strength Murashige and Skoog medium. Regenerated plants were transferred to a potting mix and gradually acclim…

Influence of anti-inflammatory flavonoids on degranulation and arachidonic acid release in rat neutrophils.
1994
We assessed the effects of 24 flavonoid derivatives, reported as anti-inflammatory, on lysosomal enzyme secretion and arachidonic acid release in rat neutrophils. Amentoflavone, quercetagetin- 7-O -glucoside, apigenin, fisetin, kaem pferol, luteolin and quercetin were the most potent inhibitors of β-glucuronidase and lysozyme release. The first com pound was also able to inhibit basal release. These flavonoids besides chrysin and to a reduced extent, naringenin, significantly inhibited arachidonic acid release from membranes. A correlation between degranulation and arachidonic acid release was found for this series of compounds. Structureactivity relationships and implications for the anti-…
Combination of acoustic levitation with small angle scattering techniques and synchrotron radiation circular dichroism. Application to the study of p…
2016
Abstract Background The acoustic levitation technique is a useful sample handling method for small solid and liquids samples, suspended in air by means of an ultrasonic field. This method was previously used at synchrotron sources for studying pharmaceutical liquids and protein solutions using x-ray diffraction and small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS). Methods In this work we combined for the first time this containerless method with small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and synchrotron radiation circular dichroism (SRCD) to study the structural behavior of proteins in solutions during the water evaporation. SANS results are also compared with SAXS experiments. Results The aggregation behavi…
