Identification and characterization of novel associations in the CASP8/ALS2CR12 region on chromosome 2 with breast cancer risk.

Previous studies have suggested that polymorphisms in CASP8 on chromosome 2 are associated with breast cancer risk. To clarify the role of CASP8 in breast cancer susceptibility, we carried out dense genotyping of this region in the Breast Cancer Association Consortium (BCAC). Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) spanning a 1 Mb region around CASP8 were genotyped in 46 450 breast cancer cases and 42 600 controls of European origin from 41 studies participating in the BCAC as part of a custom genotyping array experiment (iCOGS). The role of humidity in associations of high temperature with mortality: A multicountry, multicity study

BACKGROUND: There is strong experimental evidence that physiologic stress from high temperatures is greater if humidity is higher. However, heat indices developed to allow for this have not consistently predicted mortality better than dry-bulb temperature. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to clarify the potential contribution of humidity an addition to temperature in predicting daily mortality in summer by using a large multicountry dataset. Ileus following spontaneous jejunum intramural hematoma: case report and review of the literature.

Anticoagulant therapy may cause the onset of a spontaneous intramural hema- toma of the small bowel, in the jejunum, ileum or duodenum. A 53-year-old woman on therapy with heparin for previous pulmonary embolism was admitted for abdominal pain and vomit. Computed tomography scan visualized an intramural hematoma of the jejunum causing subtotal obstruction of the intestinal lumen. The patient underwent resection of a part of the jejunum, securing intestinal continuity by a mechanical side-to-side anastomosis. En este artículo se presentan dos documentos inéditos relacionados con la pintura al fresco de los ángeles músicos de la catedral de Valencia realizada por Francesco Pagano y Pablo de San Leocadio. Se trata de un inventario de bienes perteneciente a Francesco Pagano y un documento relativo a los andamios utilizados para la ejecución de los frescos. Su interpretación permite reconsiderar el papel asignado a ambos pintores y aporta nuevas hipótesis sobre el proceso de ejecución de esta obra. (A)

One-pot, direct incorporation of [11C]CO2 into carbamates.

Why beat about the bush? An operationally simple and mild reaction based on the direct fixation of (11)CO(2) with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) has been developed for the synthesis of (11)C-labeled carbamates at 75 degrees C within 10 minutes in radiochemical yields above 70% (see scheme). This strategy should be immediately useful for the construction of new radiotracers for positron emission tomography and other applications.

Abstract The chemotaxonomical significance of flavonoids, phenolic acids and coumarins from 20 species, belonging to eight genera of the subtribe Crepidinae (family Compositae), is discussed. The content in phenolic compounds of three species of Lactuca (L. tenerrima, L. virosa and L. muralis ) is reported for the first time.
The 2017 Assisi Think Tank Meeting on rectal cancer: A positioning paper

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSES: To describe current practice in the management of rectal cancer, to identify uncertainties that usually arise in the multidisciplinary team (MDT)'s discussions ('grey zones') and propose next generation studies which may provide answers to them. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A questionnaire on the areas of controversy in managing T2, T3 and T4 rectal cancer was drawn up and distributed to the Rectal-Assisi Think Tank Meeting (ATTM) Expert European Board. Less than 70% agreement on a treatment option was indicated as uncertainty and selected as a 'grey zone'.
