Evidence of warm and humid interstadials in central Europe during early MIS 3 revealed by a multi-proxy speleothem record

Marine Isotope Stage 3 (MIS 3, 57-27 ka) was characterised by numerous rapid climate oscillations (i.e., Dansgaard-Oeschger (D/O-) events), which are reflected in various climate archives. So far, MIS 3 speleothem records from central Europe have mainly been restricted to caves located beneath temperate Alpine glaciers or close to the Atlantic Ocean. Thus, MIS 3 seemed to be too cold and dry to enable speleothem growth north of the Alps in central Europe. Here we present a new speleothem record from Bunker Cave, Germany, which shows two distinct growth phases from 52.0 (+0.8, -0.5) to 50.9 (+0.6, -1.3) ka and 473 (+1.0, -0.6) to 42.8 (+/- 0.9) ka, rejecting this hypothesis. Improvement of oxidation resistance of polymer-based nanocomposites through sonication of carbonaceous nanoparticles

Abstract The work aim is focused on two different aspects: first, the investigation of the effect of extended ultra-sound-assisted treatment (us) of carbonaceous nanoparticles, such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon black (CB), on their radical scavenging activity, and second, the investigation of the oxidative resistance of polymer-based nanocomposites, containing us-treated CNTs and CB. Abstract Nanohybrid (phPOSS- f -CNTs) based on Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) and Phenyl Polyhedral Olygomenric Silsesquioxane (phPOSS) have been synthesized to be used as multifunctional filler for polymer nanocomposites. The success of the functionalization procedure has been demonstrated via accurate spectroscopic, spectrometric and thermo-gravimetric analyses. The results reveal that a large portion of phPOSS is covalently linked to CNTs, while a small amount of phPOSS remains physically adsorbed due to the strong interactions coming from π electron coupling between the CNTs and phenyl rings in phPOSS. Development of a 3D CZT Spectrometer System with Digital Readout for Hard X/Gamma-Ray Astronomy

We report on the development and of a complete X/γ rays detection system (10-1000 keV) based on CZT spectrometers with spatial resolution in three dimensions (3D) and a digital electronics acquisition chain. The prototype is made by packing four linear modules, each composed of one 3D CZT sensors. Each sensors is realized using a single spectroscopic graded CZT crystal of about 20×20×5 mm3. An electrode structure consisting of 12 collecting anodes with a pitch of 1.6 mm and 3 drift strips between each pair of anodes for 48 strips (0.15 mm wide) on the anodic side was adopted. Morphology and structure of electrospun CoFe2O4/multi-wall carbon nanotubes composite nanofibers

CoFe2O4/multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composite nanofibers were produced by electrospinning a dispersion of MWCNTs in a solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone, iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate, cobalt (II) acetate tetrahydrate, absolute ethanol and H2O. Microstructure was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM).
