Auto vadīšanai rekomendēto briļļu lēcu ietekme uz redzi

2021

Design and evaluation of self-healing solutions for future wireless networks

2016

This doctoral dissertation is aimed at the creation of comprehensive and innovative Self-Organizing Networks (SON) solutions for the Network Management of future wireless networks. More specifically, the thesis focuses on the Self-Healing (SH) part of SON. Faults can appear at several functional areas of a complex cellular network. However, the most critical domain from a fault management viewpoint is the Radio Access Network (RAN). The fault management of network elements is not only difficult but also imposes high costs both in capital investment (CAPEX) and operational expenditures (OPEX). The SON concept has emerged with the goal to foster automation and to reduce human involvement in man…

A chalcone-based highly selective and sensitive chromofluorogenic probe for trivalent metal cations

2015

[EN] Anew chalcone-based probe for the chromofluorogenic sens-ing of trivalent (Al3 +,Fe3+,Cr3+,Ga3+,In3+and As3 +)overmono-and divalent cationsand anionsisreported. In the presence of trivalent metal cations, the probe was able to displayaremarkable color change from yellow to colorless that wasclearly visible to the naked eye. Also, the initial strongyellowemission was gradually quenched and substituted by aweaklyshifted band.

Formation and function of a complement-activating enzyme generated from factors of guinea pig serum and cobra venom

1971

An enzymatic complex can be formed by factors from guinea pig serum and cobra venom, which is able to activate C3 bypassing C1, C4 and C2. Formation and action of the enzyme are described. The action on C3 results in an activation of the terminal complement components and in membrane destruction provided suitable membrane receptors are available.

Design, synthesis and evaluation of chromo and fluorogenic chemosensors to detect liquid ecstasy

2022

2020

The niches hewn in the rock in proximity to city gates and-walls are a recurring trait of the peri-urban landscape of Sicilian towns, especially in the south-eastern part of the island. Niches are pierced too, in multiple rows, on the walls of former quarries, in most cases close to the city walls, or in artificial caves used for cultic purposes, as inscriptions and traces of offerings testify. The excavations of Paolo Orsi in the latomie of Syracuse and Acre, in the rock or cave sanctuaries of Noto and Acre itself, and in the upper terrace of the theatre of Syracuse, suggested the main recipients of such worship were some “minor” deities like the Nymphs, the Muses or the Paides, and above …

The joint evolution of learning and dispersal maintains intraspecific diversity in metapopulations

2021

The evolution of dispersal tendencies and of cognitive abilities have both been intensely studied. Yet little attention has been given to the question of how these two aspects may relate to each other, as a result of their joint evolution. On the one hand, learning abilities may help dispersers to cope with their new habitat. On the other hand, dispersal may sometimes reduce the need for learning, because local environments may differ in how much there is to learn. To get a better understanding of this relationship, we built an individual‐based simulation in which both learning speed and dispersal tendency were free to evolve. We found that both positive and negative correlations could evol…

Un caso di pericardite recidivante colchicina-resistente

2023

Protective coloration of European vipers throughout the predation sequence

2020

Antipredator adaptations in the form of animal coloration are common and often multifunctional. European vipers (genus Vipera) have a characteristic dorsal zigzag pattern, which has been shown to serve as a warning signal to potential predators. At the same time, it has been suggested to decrease detection risk, and to cause a motion dazzle or flicker-fusion effect during movement. We tested these hypotheses by asking whether (1) the zigzag pattern decreases detection risk and (2) the detection is dependent on the base coloration (grey or brown) or the snake's posture (coiled, basking form or S-shaped, active form). Additionally, (3) we measured the fleeing speed of adders, Vipera berus, an…
