Strategies for numerical simulation of linear friction welding of metals: a review

Linear friction welding (LFW) is a solid-state joining process used to weld non-axisymmetric components. Material joining is obtained through the reciprocating motion of two specimens undergoing an axial force. During this process, the heat source is determined by the frictional work transformed into heat. This results in a local softening of the material and plays a key role in the onset of the bonding conditions. The helicoidal magnetic generator

Recently helicoidal generator for the exploitation of sea wave energy has been proposed. This device can convert both the vertical and rotational movement of seawaves. The electrical energy generated by such a device must be converted and conditioned in order to match the instantaneous utility requirements and a power link from the sea to an interconnection is needed. In this paper, the authors propose a mathematical model of this device and preliminarily present a prototype of the machine.
Silicon Surface Passivation by ALD-Ga2O3: Thermal vs. Plasma-Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition

Silicon surface passivation by gallium oxide (Ga2O3) thin films deposited by thermal- and plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (ALD) over a broad temperature range from 75 °C to 350 °C is investigated. In addition, the role of oxidant (O3 or O-plasma) pulse lengths insufficient for saturated ALD-growth is studied. The material properties are analyzed including the quantification of the incorporated hydrogen. We find that oxidant dose pulses insufficient for saturation provide for both ALD methods generally better surface passivation. Tuning of interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and domain structures in magnetic thin film multilayers

We investigate the magnetic domain structures and the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) arising in CoFeB films interfaced with selected heavy metal (HM) layers with large spin Hall angles in HM/CoFeB/MgO (HM = W, Pt, Pd, W x Ta1−x ) stacks as a function of CoFeB thickness and composition for both as-deposited and annealed materials stacks. The coercivity and the anisotropy fields of annealed material stacks are higher than for the as-deposited stacks due to crystallisation of the ferromagnetic layer. ABSOLUTE THERMOELECTRIC POWER OF Pb–Sn ALLOYS

International audience; In this work, absolute thermoelectric power (ATP) of Pb, Sn, Pb-20 wt.% Sn, Pb-40 wt.% Sn, Pb-60 wt.% Sn, Pb-80 wt.% Sn are measured. Measurements are performed in a temperature gradient furnace from 20 degrees C to 500 degrees C, for both solid and liquid states. Temperatures are measured with T-type copper-constantan thermocouples, while voltage signal between copper electrodes of those thermocouples is recorded in order to calculate ATP of the sample metal.
The effects of thermal treatment on structural, morphological and optical properties of electrochemically deposited Bi2S3 thin films

Abstract Thin films of bismuth sulfide (Bi 2 S 3 ) have been electrochemically deposited on indium–doped tin oxide substrates from aqueous solutions of Bi(NO 3 ) 3 , ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and Na 2 S 2 O 3 . The structural properties of the films were characterized using X–ray diffraction and high–resolution transmission electron microscopy analyses. The film crystallizes in an orthorhombic structure of Bi 2 S 3 along with metallic bismuth. Thermal annealing of the prepared film in sulfur atmosphere improves its crystallinity and cohesion. The band gap values of the deposited film before and after annealing at 400 °C were found to be 1.28 and 1.33 eV, respectively.
Flash annealing influence on structural and electrical properties of TiO2/TiO/Ti periodic multilayers

Abstract Multilayered structures with a 40 nm period composed of titanium and two different titanium oxides, TiO and TiO 2 , were accurately produced by DC magnetron sputtering using the reactive gas pulsing process. These multilayers were sputtered onto Al 2 O 3 sapphire to avoid substrate compound diffusion during flash annealing (ranging from 350 °C to 550 °C). Structure and composition of these periodic TiO 2 /TiO/Ti stacks were investigated by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and transmission electronic microscopy techniques. A multilayer model for self-propagating high-temperature synthesis of inter-metallic compounds

International audience; Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis of intermetallic compounds is of wide interest. We consider reactions in a binary system in which the rise and fall of the temperature during the reaction is such that one of the reacting metals melts but not the other. For such a system, using the phase diagram of the binary system, we present a general theory that describes the reaction taking place in a single solid particle of one component surrounded by the melt of the second component. The theory gives us a set of kinetic equations that describe the propagation of the phase interfaces in the solid particle and the change in composition of the melt that surrounds it. I…
Anomalies of dielectric properties and conductivity in single domain LiNbO3:Zn crystals

ABSTRACTA study of the temperature dependence of dielectric constant, conductivity, and piezoelectric modulus in the single-domain state of LiNbO3 crystals modified by Zn admixture at threshold concentration is reported. Unipolarity of the LiNbO3:Zn crystals is observed to increase after treatment of brand-new samples by high-temperature electro-diffusion annealing and by subsequent high-temperature annealing of short-circuited samples. The observed effects are explained as a result of meta-stable residual domains collapsing at high temperature the collapse being assisted by disintegration of charged clusters stabilizing domain walls. Impact of Annealing Temperature on Tunneling Magnetoresistance Multilayer Stacks

The effect of annealing temperatures on the tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) of MgO-based magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) has been investigated for annealing between 190 and 370°C. The TMR shows a maximum value of 215% at an annealing temperature of 330°C. A strong sensitivity of the TMR and the exchange bias of the pinned ferromagnetic layers on the annealing temperature are observed. Depending on sensor application requirements, the MTJ can be optimized either for stability and pinning strength or for a high TMR signal by choosing the appropriate annealing temperature.
