Neural network prediction of AE data

1997

Neural network (NN) models were constructed to study prediction of the AE index. Both solar wind (vBz) and previous observed AE inputs were used to predict AE data for different numbers of time steps ahead. It seems that prediction of the original unsmoothed AE data is possible only for 10 time steps (25 min) ahead. The predicted time series of the AE data for 50 time steps (125 min) ahead was found to be dynamically different from the original time series. It is possible that the NN model cannot reproduce the turbulent part of the power spectrum of the AE data. Network-Based Computational Techniques to Determine the Risk Drivers of Bank Failures During a Systemic Banking Crisis

This paper employs a computational model of solvency and liquidity contagion assessing the vulnerability of banks to systemic risk. We find that the main risk drivers relate to the financial connections a bank has and the market concentration, apart from the size of the bank triggering the contagion, while balance sheets play only a minor role. We also find that market concentration might facilitate banks to withstand liquidity shocks better while exposing them to larger solvency chocks. Our results are validated through an out-of-sample forecasting that shows that both type I and type II prediction errors are reduced if we include network characteristics in our prediction model.

On the Consistency of Non-Stationary Multipath Fading Channels with Respect to the Average Doppler Shift and the Doppler Spread

This paper is concerned with the consistency of non-stationary multipath fading channels. We introduce conditions under which a channel model is consistent w.r.t. the average Doppler shift and the Doppler spread. The conditions are applied to two classes of non-stationary channel models. The first class, which is termed Class A, is characterized by channel models based on an integral relationship between the path phases and the associated time-variant Doppler frequencies. Usage of HMM-Based Speech Recognition Methods for Automated Determination of a Similarity Level Between Languages

The problem of automated determination of language similarity (or even defining of a distance on the space of languages) could be solved in different ways – working with phonetic transcriptions, with speech recordings or both of them. For the recordings, we propose and test a HMM-based one: in the first part of our article we successfully try language detection, afterwards we are trying to calculate distances between HMM-based models, using different metrics and divergences.
