Road network characterization to understand city evolution

2021

International audience; Cities combine different kind of processes that drive their evolution. It is of a great interest to understand the effects of different kinds of spatial patterns on those processes, to be able to minimize space consumption and optimize mobility and transportation. In this research, we aim to contribute to the understanding of city evolution by a focus on the road network of the Eastern French city of Dijon’s. Firstly, we select three network indicators that can be used to characterize the city structure as it grows. We apply these indicators to Dijon’s historical road networks from 1650 until 2019. Finally, we discuss how we can use computational simulations of city g…

Modeling ontologies for robotic environments

2002

On the basis of a multiple abstraction levels specification process, we developed a representational model for environmental robotic knowledge through the definition of a set of ontologies using a multi perspective approach. A general ontological model for typical indoor environments has been first developed, followed by its specialization using an implementation perspective. Actual software implementation of the ontology has been obtained via a XML-based markup language, used to build a repository for robotic environmental knowledge. Copyright 2002 ACM.

Expiration of Time Limits and the Ius Appellationis

2022

The rotal decree under comment offers the cue to address the delicate topic of the appeal and the peremptory time limits for its presentation, especially in light of the recent reform of the canonical matrimonial process promulgated by Pope Francis. On the basis of the new structure of the process of matrimonial nullity appears, in fact, evident the legislative disfavor, towards the appeal, seen as a potentially dangerous tool for the salus animarum of the faithful for the risk of procedural lengths connected to it, so as to provide for a prior examination of admissibility in order to avoid that they were made for the purpose of mere dilatory, that is, for the sole purpose of lengthening the…

Networks and health care systems

1996

The network concept has been successful in the economic littérature and in the health care economics littérature. However the network concept is not easy to define. In the first part, this paper suggests a framework for network conceptions analysis :first, network can be conceived as a structure of economic organisation (such as infrastructure networks), or as a coordination mode, alternative and different from market or hierarchy coordination. In the second part, this paper analyses recent mutations in the health care system (such as cooperation relationships between several hospitals and private clinics, networks between hospitals and ambulatory medical care...) from the network concept a…

La spécialisation des productions et les spécialistes: Une introduction

2018

With the emergence of manufacturing based economies, specialised productions take on new dimensions during the Neolithic. Production networks progressively develop during the Neolithic and the Metal Ages and can be characterised according to their scale, how they are organised, the status of producers and the intensification of the trade of manufactured goods. This results on the one hand in mass production and on the other in the creation of highly technical objects on demand within a complex economic system of consumption and exchange. This is not seen as a linear progression but as a diversification of productions, products and know-how, the chronological and social contextualisation of …

Science of success: An introduction

2019

Performance and success are often used as synonyms to express individual accomplishment. However, from a scientific perspective they cover very different concepts: performance is about individual effort, while success is a collective quantity capturing the community's acknowledgment of effort and performance. In these notes, we investigate the quantitative rules that govern both, trying to model their interdependence within the framework of complex systems. We explore different fields, ranging from online crowdfunding platforms to academia, with the idea of applying scientifically sound methods to uncover the universal laws that determine the allocation of merit in science and society.

Who Can See My Stuff? : Online Self-Disclosure and Gender Differences on Facebook

2018

This study investigates the gendered privacy practices and concerns on Facebook, by leaning on the idea of privacy management as a form of digital labour. We analyse if young Facebook users are more concerned about the privacy against other users than against Facebook as a company or against third-party partners. We also analyse if privacy concerns and visibility rules are differentiated by gender. Using a structured online survey, we collected responses from a sample of 813 Italian university students (aged 18-34). Our results show that the respondents have just slightly more privacy concerns against other users than against Facebook, and much less against third-party partners. Unlike a ma…

¿Quién está buscando su mejor versión? Coaching y psicología deportiva en el proceso de terapeutización de (y desde) el golf

2020

This article asks about the expansion of psychological, therapeutic and self-enhancement ethos through the networks and devices that configures middle and upper-middle classes, and about the ways in which this process is singled out starting from the encounter between coaching and psychology paradigms with golf fans, in contemporary Argentina. The empirical materials that support the analysis have been ethnographically produced from the interaction with golf players and coaches.
