Strontium Insertion in Methylammonium Lead Iodide: Long Charge Carrier Lifetime and High Fill-Factor Solar Cells.

2016

The addition of Sr2+ in CH3 NH3 PbI3 perovskite films enhances the charge carrier collection efficiency of solar cells leading to very high fill factors, up to 85%. The charge carrier lifetime of Sr2+ -containing perovskites is in excess of 40 μs, longer than those reported for perovskite single crystals.

Molecular self-assembly on an insulating surface: interplay between substrate templating and intermolecular interactions

2012

We report on molecular self-assembly of biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (BPDCA) on CaCO3(10 (1) over bar4) under ultra-high vacuum conditions. Two-dimensional, ordered islands are obtained upon deposition at room temperature, coexisting with a streaky structure that is ascribed to individual, mobile molecules forming a two-dimensional gas-like phase. High-resolution non-contact atomic force microscopy (NC-AFM) images of the molecular islands reveal an ordered inner structure that is dominated by rows of molecules aligned side by side running along the [(42) over bar 61] crystallographic direction. A detailed analysis of these rows exhibits inter-row distances that are multiples of the calci…

Triarylamines connected via phenylenevinylene segments

2003

Abstract The influences of the conjugation length and of side chains with various electronic character on the electro-optical properties of oligo(phenylenevinylene)s end-capped with diphenylamino groups are investigated. Horner-Olefinations were used for the synthesis of chromophores with 3–7 rings in the conjugated system, additionally, Pd-catalysed amination of bromo-OPVs is a useful route to introduce the end groups. Compared with the “electronically neutral” alkyl side chains, electron donating ethers and, more pronounced, electron withdrawing sulfonyl side chains shift the absorption and emission spectra to longer wavelengths. The elongation of the π-system from 3 to 5 and 7 rings has …

Stilbenoid phosphors with increased electron affinity: sulfones as electron accepting groups

2001

Stilbenoid compounds are one of the preferred classes of luminescent materials for the use in light emitting diodes (LEDs). A problem connected with the use of poly(phenylenevinylene) (PPV) in LEDs is the unbalanced charge carrier transport, electron injection from aluminium and electron transport properties are only poor. The substitution with electron accepting groups like nitriles is a suitable way to lower the LUMO level of the chromophore. The electron withdrawing strength of sulfones is comparable to cyanides and the second binding site is useful to attach solubilising side chains. A two-step synthesis of model compounds and polymers from ethene and sulfonyl dibromobenzene and bromo a…

A new improved synthesis of the 110 K bismuth superconducting phase: freeze-drying of acetic solutions

1992

Abstract Metastability has greatly hindered the separated synthesis of the high-temperature superconducting phases represented as (Bi1−x, Pbx)2Sr2Can−1CunO4 + 2n (n = 2, 2-2-1-2, Tc≈80 K, and n = 3, 2-2-2-3, Tc≈110 K). By careful control of the synthetic variables, it becomes possible to obtain the 110 K phase as the only superconducting one through processing of freeze-dried acetic solutions. This technique leads to homogeneously sized (5–10 μm) micaceous platelets of the superconducting material.

Chain linear dimensions in the surface-enriched layer of polymer mixtures

1992

We calculate the mean-square end-to-end distances and mean-square gyration radii using the bond fluctuation model for a binary polymer blend in the presence of a wall by Monte Carlo simulation. In the bulk, the size of the minority, low-concentration polymer species is compressed compared to the majority one. In the vicinity of the wall, where the minority polymer concentration is enriched due to attraction from the wall, the dimensions of the two types of polymers are approximately equal and are essentially the same as in an athermal polymer melt. Thus, the geometric constraint is more important to the structure of the polymers than the polymer-polymer and polymer-wall interactions.

Sustainable nanocomposites based on halloysite nanotubes and pectin/polyethylene glycol blend

2013

Abstract This study was focused on the preparation and characterization of biofilms based on pectin/polyethylene glycol 20000 (PEG) blend and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). The obtained blends loaded with a natural nanoclay are proposed as sustainable alternative to the polymers produced from non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels. Properties of technological interest have been monitored and they were correlated to the structural features of the nanocomposites. It turned out that the wettability of the films can be tuned by changing the composition and the distribution of HNTs into the material as well as the surface roughness. The tensile properties of the blend are enhanced by the pre…

Thermogravimetric and calorimetric studies of water absorbed in polyaniline

1995

Abstract Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to study the behavior of residual water absorbed by an emeraldine base and a salt of chemically synthesized polyaniline (PANI—EB, PANI-ES). The matrix of PANI is shown to contain water molecules participating in both reversible and irreversible absorption. In its turn, the reversibly absorbed water consists of two components. The first component (WD 1 ) amounts to 5–7 wt.% and is removable from PANI-EB in a flow of dry nitrogen at room temperature. The second one (6–8 wt.%) of more strongly bonded water (WD 2 ) can be withdrawn from PANI-EB at temperatures from 70 to 150 °C depending on the measu…
