Puritāņu sievišķības un Indiāņu mežonības atspoguļojums agrīnās ASV nebrīves stāstījumos
2018
Effects of Plant Density on the Number of Glandular Trichomes and on Yield and Quality of Essential Oils from Oregano.
2016
Plants yields are influenced by agronomic techniques. Plant density is a complex issue and extremely important when maximizing both crop quality, and biomass and essential oil yields. Plants belonging to the Origanum vulgare subspecies hirtum (Link) Ietswaart were grown adopting four types of plant density and were characterized in biometric and chemical terms. The samples were analyzed using the ANOVA (Principal Component Analysis) statistical method regarding biometric aspects, EO yield and peltate hair density. Essential oil (EO) was extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed using GC-FID and GC-MS. GC-FID and GC-MS analysis led to the identification of 45 compounds from the EO. Plant …
Feature selection strategies for quality screening of diesel samples by infrared spectrometry and linear discriminant analysis.
2012
Abstract A rapid approach has been developed for the characterization of diesel quality, based on attenuated total reflectance – Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectrometry, which could be useful for diagnosing the sample quality condition. As a supervised technique, linear discriminant analysis (LDA) was employed to process the spectrometric data. The role of variable selection methods was also evaluated. Successive projection algorithm (SPA) and genetic algorithm (GA) feature selection techniques were applied prior to the discriminative procedure. It was aimed to compare the effect of feature selection procedures on classification capability of IR spectrometry for the diesel sample…

Synthesis of Optically Pure Arylamine Derivatives by Using the Bucherer Reaction
2017
The Bucherer reaction is a common pathway for the conversion of 1- and 2-naphthols into the corresponding 1- or 2-naphthylamines, respectively. Mostly, only singular examples for its preparative use are reported since this particular transformation seems to be very sensitive to the reaction conditions. By choosing different phenolic substrates and chiral amines, we were able to prepare a broad scope of optically pure arylamines using this type of reaction. In contrast to alternative methods forming C−N aryl bonds such as Buchwald-Hartwig or Chan-Lam cross-coupling reactions, no palladium or copper catalysts are required. The use of water as solvent and the easily available starting material…
Carbocatalytic Oxidative Dehydrogenative Couplings of (Hetero)Aryls by Oxidized Multi‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes in Liquid Phase
2019
HNO3-oxidized carbon nanotubes catalyze oxidative dehydrogenative (ODH) carbon-carbon bond formation between electron-rich (hetero)aryls with O-2 as a terminal oxidant. The recyclable carbocatalytic method provides a convenient and an operationally easy synthetic protocol for accessing various benzofused homodimers, biaryls, triphenylenes, and related benzofused heteroaryls that are highly useful frameworks for material chemistry applications. Carbonyls/quinones are the catalytically active site of the carbocatalyst as indicated by model compounds and titration experiments. Further investigations of the reaction mechanism with a combination of experimental and DFT methods support the compet…
Anything but Ordinary - Emerging Splicing Mechanisms in Eukaryotic Gene Regulation.
2021
Splicing of precursor mRNAs (pre-mRNA) is an important step during eukaryotic gene expression. The identification of the actual splice sites and the proper removal of introns are essential for the production of the desired mRNA isoforms and their encoded proteins. While the basic mechanisms of splicing regulation are well understood, recent work has uncovered a growing number of noncanonical splicing mechanisms that play key roles in the regulation of gene expression. In this review, we summarize the current principles of splicing regulation, including the impact of cis and trans regulatory elements, as well as the influence of chromatin structure, transcription, and RNA modifications. We f…
Quality of reporting in abstracts of RCTs published in emergency medicine journals: a protocol for a systematic survey of the literature
2017
Introduction The quality of reporting of abstracts of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in major general medical journals and in some category-specific journals was shown to be poor before the publication of the ConsolidatedStandards of ReportingTrials (CONSORT) extension for abstracts in 2008, and an improvement in the quality of reporting of abstracts was observed after its publication. The effect of the publication of the CONSORT extension for abstracts on the quality of reporting of RCTs in emergency medicine journals has not been studied. In this paper, we present the protocol of a systematic survey of the literature, aimed at assessing the quality of reporting in abstracts of RCTs p…
Methodological aspects of clinical trials in tinnitus: a proposal for an international standard
2012
Abstract: Chronic tinnitus is a common condition with a high burden of disease. While many different treatments are used in clinical practice, the evidence for the efficacy of these treatments is low and the variance of treatment response between individuals is high. This is most likely due to the great heterogeneity of tinnitus with respect to clinical features as well as underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. There is a clear need to find effective treatment options in tinnitus, however, clinical trials differ substantially with respect to methodological quality and design. Consequently, the conclusions that can be derived from these studies are limited and jeopardize comparison betwee…
