Startup Metrics That Tech Entrepreneurs Need to Know

2020

Metrics can be used by firms to make more objective decisions based on data. Software startups in particular are characterized by the uncertain or even chaotic nature of the contexts in which they operate. Using data in the form of metrics can help software startups to make the right decisions amid uncertainty and limited resources. However, whereas conventional business metrics and software metrics have been studied in the past, metrics in the specific context of software startups have not been studied. In this chapter, we present the results of a multivocal literature review to offer you 118 metrics practitioner experts think software startups should measure. These metrics can give you id…

Exploiting a list of protein sequences

2007

Abstract: We describe a software program to help exploit a database of aligned protein sequences. In addition to the classical lists of sequences, a graphical representation is used to get a better overview of the information. As natural parameters, the type of amino acid and sequence position are used. Various plots or 3D representations are then updated. Examples are shown based on globin sequences from various species and on the abnormal human hemoglobins. The software should be of interest to protein engineers who need to know what variants are already known.

2021

Abstract Terrestrial Essential Climate Variables, known as terrestrial ECVs, are key sources of information for both application- and scientific- oriented research. A large number of global terrestrial ECV products have been derived from satellite observations, and more are forthcoming. To unlock the full potential of these products, end-users need to know their uncertainties and error magnitudes. Due to the lack of conformity among validation strategies, a wide range of validation approaches have been employed to assess the quality of these products, and have resulted in reduced comparability even for the same terrestrial ECV. Addressing this challenge in validation practices requires the …

Reliability Generalization Meta-Analysis

2020

Social research on human resources. The need to follow a methodology

2008

The aim of this article is to highlight the current need to know the reality around them by professionals that manage people in organisations. It is through a systematic process of social research what they will allow to take decisions more timely and adequate to achieve the objectives of the organization, understanding them in a broader sense which would also include issues such as security, quality of life and development of workers, among others.

The new world of biosimilars: what diabetologists need to know about biosimilar insulins

2010

Biosimilar pharmaceuticals are emerging as patent protection on the original biopharmaceutical products expires. However, biopharmaceuticals are particularly complex molecules, and biosimilar insulins present special challenges. In part this reflects their structure and chemical modification after synthesis to attain a biologically active form. Their therapeutic window is narrow and the accuracy of their dosing is highly dependent on the formulation and quality of the administration device. For these reasons, the European Medicines Agency has issued stringent guidelines that must be fulfilled in order to receive approval as a biosimilar soluble insulin. Prescribers should therefore consider…

Immunological Monitoring to Rationally Guide AAV Gene Therapy

2013

Recent successes with adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapies fuel the hope for new treatments for hereditary diseases. Pre-existing as well as therapy-induced immune responses against both AAV and the encoded transgenes have been described and may impact on safety and efficacy of gene-therapy approaches. Consequently, monitoring of vector- and transgene-specific immunity is mandated and may rationally guide clinical development. Next to the humoral immune response, the cellular response is central in our understanding of the host reaction in gene therapy. But in contrast to the monitoring of antibodies, which has matured over many decades, sensitive and robust monitoring of T cel…

Digital game-based training of early reading skills : overview of the GraphoGame method in a highly transparent orthography / Entrenamiento de habili…

2014

Learning to read in a language with a transparent orthography is generally quick and easy. To be able to read any words, learners need to know how to connect the smallest spoken language units, phonemes, into the written counterparts, graphemes. However, even learning the basic alphabetic principle has proven difficult for some learners. Here we focus on children who struggle to learn to read in Finnish that has a highly transparent orthography. In an attempt to provide efficient early preventative support for such learners, a technologyenhanced learning environment, GraphoGame, was developed. The GraphoGame method focuses on the specific problematic areas of each individual learner using a…

Pharmacogenomics in psychiatry: from therapeutic drug monitoring to genomic medicine.

2013

Psychiatry is increasingly combining new pharmacogenomic findings with therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) to improve the safety and efficacy of pharmacotherapy. However, a distinction should be made between “nice to know” and “need to know” pharmacogenomic data because many results are statistically significant in meta-analyses but are not clinically relevant due to their low effect sizes. Some examples will illustrate this integration.

COVID-19 y enfermedad cardiovascular y renal: ¿Dónde estamos? ¿Hacia dónde vamos?

2020
