Electron capture activation of the disulfide bond. The role of the asymmetry and electronegativity.

The effects of electron capture on the structure of XSSX' disulfide derivatives in which the substituents attached to the sulfur atoms have different electronegativites have been investigated at different levels of theory, namely DFT, MP2, QCISD and CASSCF/CASPT2. Although it has been generally assumed that electron attachment to disulfide derivatives leads to a systematic and significant activation of the S-S bond, our results show that this is the case only when the substituents X or X' have low electronegativity. Asymmetry and Non-Adiabaticity in Fragmentation of Disulfide Bonds upon Electron Capture

Although it has been generally assumed that electron attachment to disulfide derivatives leads to a systematic and significant activation of the S-S bond, we show, by using [CH(3)SSX] (X = CH(3), NH(2), OH, F) derivatives as model compounds, that this is the case only when the X substituents have low electronegativity. Through the use of MP2, QCI and CASPT2 molecular orbital (MO) methods, we elucidate, for the first time, the mechanisms that lead to unimolecular fragmentation of disulfide derivatives after electron attachment. Event-related potentials (ERP) in the areas CA1, CA3 and dentate fascia (Df) of the hippocampal formation were recorded during an oddball situation in the cat. A rewarding electrical stimulation of the lateral hypothalamus (US) was paired with deviant tones (2500 Hz) that occurred randomly in a series of the standard tones (2000 Hz) given to the left ear. In addition to developing orienting head movements to the side of the deviant tones, an increase in the amplitude of parallel hippocampal ERPs was observed. New fast mismatch negativity paradigm for determining the neural prerequisites for musical ability.

Studies have consistently shown that the mismatch negativity (MMN) for different auditory features correlates with musical skills, and that this effect is more pronounced for stimuli integrated in complex musical contexts. Hence, the MMN can potentially be used for determining the development of auditory skills and musical expertise. MMN paradigms, however, are typically very long in duration, and far from sounding musical. Therefore, we developed a novel multi-feature MMN paradigm with 6 different deviant types integrated in a complex musical context of no more than 20 min in duration. Informal musical activities are linked to auditory discrimination and attention in 2-3-year-old children: an event-related potential study

The relation between informal musical activities at home and electrophysiological indices of neural auditory change detection was investigated in 2-3-year-old children. Auditory event-related potentials were recorded in a multi-feature paradigm that included frequency, duration, intensity, direction, gap deviants and attention-catching novel sounds. Enhanced interfacial lithium storage in nanocomposites of transition metals with LiF and Li2O: Comparison of DFT calculations and experimental studies

Abstract Me/LiX nanocomposites (Me – transition metal and X = F or O) exhibit extra lithium storage, with pseudo-capacitive behavior and high-rate performance. While LiX surface layers or the interfacial core serves as hosts for extra Li, atoms of contacting transition metal serve as electron sinks, depending on Me electronegativity. To verify the mechanism, we have performed comparative DFT-LCAO calculations on the polar Ti|Li|Li2O(111) and non-polar Cu|Li|LiF(001) interfaces with extra Li atoms inserted inside both 2D interfaces, gradually changing their concentration.
