Comparison of the Photoelectronic and Photocatalytic Activities of Various Anatase and Rutile Forms of Titania in Pure Liquid Organic Phases and in A…

1996

Various titania samples of industrial origin (Degussa and Tioxide) have been characterized by electrical photoconductance measurements and tested as photocatalysts in various liquid media (either pure organic liquids or aqueous solutions) as a function of their structure (anatase versus rutile). Anatase was constantly found more active than rutile, whatever the reaction chosen (mild oxidation of pure cyclohexane and 2-propanol; total degradation of phenol and nitrophenol isomers in water). In identical conditions, Degussa was found more active, but the intrinsic activity, expressed in moles converted per hour and per square meter of active surface, was found slightly higher for anatase Tiox…

Synthes…

The metabolism of phenol and substituted phenols in zebra fish.

1987

1. The metabolism of five phenols in zebra fish was studied after uptake from the medium. The results showed no qualitative differences to other Cyprinid fish species, only the oxidation rate seemed to be lower. 2. Phenyl glucuronide, phenyl sulphate, and quinol sulphate were identified as metabolites of phenol. 3. Identified metabolites of 2-cresol were 2-cresyl glucuronide, 2-cresyl sulphate, and 2-hydroxybenzoic acid in trace amounts. 4. Only the glucuronide and sulphate conjugates were detected as metabolites of 4-nitrophenol, 4-chlorophenol, and pentachlorophenol.

Metabolic aspects of the rhythmogenesis inAplysia pacemaker neurons

1973

Completely isolatedAplysia pacemaker neurons were used to investigate mechanisms of endogenous electrical rhythmicity. This preparation allows the study of pure pacemaker activity free from synaptic, ephaptic and/or humoral influences from the surrounding cells. The effect of some substances quite different in their mode of biochemical action were tested: sodium iodoacetate, phloridzin, dinitrophenol, heavy water, and ouabain. Each of these substances suppressed the spontaneous spike activity without any marked depolarizing or hyperpolarizing effect. Spontaneous spike activity of the neurons silenced after addition of one of these substances reappeared after addition of glucose. The restori…

Metabolism of 3-nitrophenol by the frog Rana temporaria.

1986

1. Frogs injected with 3-nitrophenol excreted 85–93% of the administered dose within 17h; 70–90% dose was metabolized.2. Metabolites identified comprise 3-nitrophenyl glucuronide (57% dose), 3-nitro-phenyl sulphate (24% dose), and 3-acetamidophenyl sulphate (2% dose). Traces of the following metabolites were found: 3-acetamidophenyl glucuronide, 3-acetamidophenol, 4-nitrocatechol, nitroquinol, 4-nitrocatechol sulphate and nitroquinol sulphate.

Optimization of coupled advanced oxidation processes and activated carbons for purification of salt water

2015

Photocatalysis, ozonation and activated carbons were investigated separately and in combination as tools for the purification of polluted salt water. Coupling different processes enables to overcome many drawbacks related to the use of the single technologies and at the same time to exploit possible synergistic effects. In this work a kinetic analysis was performed for modelling the degradation of 4-nitrophenol (4NP) as a probe pollutant molecule in synthetic seawater. Thus, the optimum synergistic conditions of the three processes acting together were determined and discussed.

Simultaneous determination of 4-nitroanisole, 4-nitrophenol, and 4-nitrocatechol by phase-sensitive ac polarography.

1977

Abstract Phase‐sensitive ac polarography was applied to the simultaneous quantitative determination of 4‐nitroanisole, 4‐nitrophenol and 4‐nitrocatechol in alkaline solutions. Certain experimental precautions are necessary to determine each compound in the presence of the other two. Thus, 4‐nitrocatechol is determined indirectly by forming a yellow ratio chelate with cupric ions, whereas 4‐nitroanisole is determined directly by the reduction waves of the nitro group. For the determination of 4‐nitrophenol, the interference by the simultaneously present 4‐nitrocatechol must be eliminated by masking it by the addition of magnesium ions. The method described permits a qualitative and quantitat…
