Policy is what happens while you’re busy doing something else: introduction to special issue on “language” indexing higher education policy
2016
Traditionally, language has had three functions in higher education. It has been seen as a medium of teaching; as a means of archiving knowledge in different text depositories like books and libraries; and as an object of theoretical study (Brumfit 2004, 164). Brumfit’s typology acknowledges the fact that language somehow crosses the everyday experience of everyone working, studying or otherwise engaged at universities—in other words, in knowledge production. In recent years, however, two major trends in higher education policies have challenged Brumfit’s classification and called for attention to language in a new way: internationalization and globalization policies on the one hand, and kn…
Transnationalisation and Nordic higher education - Tensions and possibilities in educational policy
2014
The recent developments in Nordic higher education policy are closely linked with global tendencies, which are in turn reacted to at national and local levels. The financial crisis, massification of higher education, and the attachment to transnational, mainly European policies have set the background for new tendencies in education governance. New governance patterns are the outcome of transnational pressures, which are domesticated at the national level. Thus, these transnational tendencies are (re‐)constructed for different transnational, national and local purposes. This thematic issue analyses how the Nordic countries have reacted to these tendencies, tensions and possibilities. nonPee…

La variació sintàctica: uniformitat en la diversitat
2021
The study of the syntactic variation of the dialects of a language is a good instrument to understand the general properties of language and the syntactic principles that govern the limits of variation in sentence structure. This paper deals with two topics of Catalan sintax, which are given different solutions by the speakers depending on the dialects. One of them is at the interface between syntax and morphology; the other, at the interface between syntax and semantics. The both are related to agreement: morphological features agreement and lexical features agreement. Specifically, we will analise number agreement in deontic sentences with the verb caldre from dialects where this verb is …
La llengua al nord del País Valencià
1999
A review of the various sub-dialect classifications of Catalan in the north of the Pais Valencià, together with a proposal distinguishing northern Valencian, with two subdialects, and southern Tortosí in the eastern border with Catalonia, provide an introduction to an elaborate summary of the main dialectal research on the area. This is followed by the features characterizing these subdialects and a description of the area involved. There are seven phonetic phenomena: an unpalatalized production of /tS/, the survival and loss of intervocalic /d/, the opening of initial /e/, the disappearance and survival or/r/and some plosives at the end of words; in addition, the paper contains six section…
Nye litteraturer: Litterære tekstpraksiser hos voksne innvandrere i norsk grunnskoleopplæring
2020
Studien …
Uskyldige gleder, farlige slutninger. Selvhat og fundamentalisme i Knut Hamsuns roman Den siste Glæde (1912)
2020
Knut Hamsunʼs prose fiction around 1890 fulfills his programmatic intention to represent modern complex individuals. Two decades later the author steps forth to chastise the nation with simplistic reactionary truths. The hero of Hamsunʼs “wanderer” novels 1906 to 1912 may be taken to parody the protagonists of Hunger, Mysteries, and Pan 1888–1894. The hysteric tone in the narratorʼs criticism of modern society in Hamsunʼs 1912 novel, The Last Joy, points to a personal motivation. The ultimate pleasure in this book seems to be indulging in his own self, an experience of nothingness associated with literature. Interpreting the authorʼs U-turn from modernist to reactionary as fueled by fear of…
