Isomeric arrangement of the left atrial appendages and visceral heterotaxy: two atypical cases.

AbstractWe present two cases in which there was isomeric arrangement oi the left atrial appendages in association with multiple spleens and complete heart block. In both of these, the venous connections were normal. In one case the arrangement of the bronchial tree and the lungs was normal, the liver was left-sided, and the stomach was right-sided. In the other case, there was left isomeric broncho-pulmonary morphology, and both liver and stomach were right-sided. These unusual combinations show the need for full description of the morphology of other organs, and the venoatrial connections, in cases with isomeric arrangement of the atrial appendages. Central corneal thickness in mucopolysaccharidosis II and VI.

Objective To describe the ultrasonographically detected central corneal thickness (CCT) in patients with Type II and VI mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and its impact on applanation tonometry and glaucoma detection. Methods Twenty-eight patients with MPS (19 MPS II, nine MPS VI) underwent pachymetric investigation of CCT. Additionally, ultrasound measurements of axial length of the globe, slit-lamp evaluation with semiquantitative grading of corneal clouding, applanation tonometry, and assessment of refractive error were performed. Normal forms of hyperbolic logarithmic transseries

We find the normal forms of hyperbolic logarithmic transseries with respect to parabolic logarithmic normalizing changes of variables. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition on such transseries for the normal form to be linear. The normalizing transformations are obtained via fixed point theorems, and are given algorithmically, as limits of Picard sequences in appropriate topologies.

Any damage to the retina can lead to severe consequences like blindness. This visual impairment is preventable by early detection of ocular abnormalities. Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) for ocular abnormalities is built by analyzing retinal imaging modalities, for instance, Color Fundus Photography (CFP). The main objectives of this thesis are to build two CAD models, one to detect the microaneurysms (MAs), the first visible symptom of diabetic retinopathy, and the other for multi-label detection of 28 ocular abnormalities consisting of frequent and rare abnormalities from a single CFP by using deep learning-based approaches. Abstract The gas chromatography of mixtures of n -alkyl acetates (CH 3 COOR, R = C 1 —C 8 ) and methyl esters of aliphatic n -carboxylic acids (R′COOCH 3 , R′ = C 1 —C 8 ) and certain of their monochlorinated derivatives has been studied on Carbowax 20M and SE-30 glass capillary columns under the same operating conditions. The separation of the isomeric monochlorinated esters was complete on Carbowax 20M, whereas on SE-30 the peaks of 6- and 7-chlorooctyl acetates and methyl (ω − 1)- and (ω − 2)-chlorooctanoates and -nonanoates partly overlapped. A space X is said to be cellular-Lindelof if for every cellular family $$\mathcal {U}$$ there is a Lindelof subspace L of X which meets every element of $$\mathcal {U}$$ . Cellular-Lindelof spaces generalize both Lindelof spaces and spaces with the countable chain condition. Solving questions of Xuan and Song, we prove that every cellular-Lindelof monotonically normal space is Lindelof and that every cellular-Lindelof space with a regular $$G_\delta $$ -diagonal has cardinality at most $$2^\mathfrak {c}$$ . Inside the Thompson laboratory during the “cerebellar years” and the continuing cerebellar story

This paper is based on the talk by one of the authors (DL) given at the symposium for the retirement of RF Thompson (RF Thompson: A bridge between 20th and 21st century neuroscience). We first make some informal observations of the historical times and research conditions in the Thompson laboratory when the cerebellum was found to play a critical role in eye lid classical conditioning, the "cerebellar years". These conditions influenced our collaborative international program on the phenomenon known as "transfer of training" or "savings". Improving the Competency of Classifiers through Data Generation

This paper describes a hybrid approach in which sub-symbolic neural networks and symbolic machine learning algorithms are grouped into an ensemble of classifiers. Initially each classifier determines which portion of the data it is most competent in. The competency information is used to generated new data that are used for further training and prediction. The application of this approach in a difficult to learn domain shows an increase in the predictive power, in terms of the accuracy and level of competency of both the ensemble and the component classifiers.
