ERP Post-implementation Issues in Small-and- Medium-Sized Enterprises

2011

This paper focuses on ERP post-implementation issues in Small-and-Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).We conducted a case study in a small Norwegian retail company. We studied the enterprise in the period after going live with their new ERP system. Certain challenges were observed such as security risks because of inaccurate configuration of the system, difficulties with operational issues such as sending invoices and getting sales reports, inaccurate inventory, insufficient training arrangement, workarounds, conflicting incentives among customer, reseller and consultant. There were human consequences for end users since the implementation of the system caused stress among some of the employees…

Diverging approaches to benefits realization from public ICT investments

2013

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore practical methods for benefits realisation, with the intention of investigating if they are variance of a theme or rather can be classified as different approaches.Design/methodology/approachBased on a document study of Norwegian methods‐in‐use, this study uses an analytical comparison following an assimilation‐accommodation procedure to categorize the chosen methods as instances of approaches to benefits realisation.FindingsThis study documents the emergence of several methods from practice in the last half decade. This analysis suggests the existence of three distinct approaches to benefits realisation and defines these according to their cen…

Drivers and dynamic processes for SMEs going global

2006

PurposeMany, if not most, small to medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) are subject to the impacts of globalisation. This article seeks to explore the extra dimension of challenge to their already difficult environments when they have to venture into the world‐trade system.Design/methodology/approachRecent research undertaken separately by Polish, Italian, Norwegian and UK collaborators examined eight case studies of disparate smaller companies with international operations. This article brings together the common features found, and discusses them in terms of structural drivers and dynamic implications.FindingsResearch findings include the stretching of capabilities in supporting customers in u…

Innovation Dynamics of Global Competitive Regional Clusters: The Case of the Norwegian Centres of Expertise

2009

Isaksen A. Innovation dynamics of global competitive regional clusters: the case of the Norwegian Centres of Expertise, Regional Studies. This paper analyses the innovation dynamics in six regional clusters that have been appointed as Norwegian Centres of Expertise and have been assessed as some of the most internationally competitive regional clusters in Norway. The most consistent finding concerns the great importance of strong Norwegian innovation systems in the maritime and oil and gas industries in underpinning the innovation dynamism of these clusters. This finding has some theoretical implications because the national level is mainly absent in the discourse on local buzz (knowledge s…

Mapping Elderly Citizen’s Computer and ICT Use in a Small-sized Norwegian Municipality

2015

In Norway, many citizens’ services are exclusively or at least delivered online. They usually require sufficient knowledge to use information and communication technologies (ICT). As part of an Interreg IV European project focused on e-inclusion for elderly, this work presents a study to map computer and Internet use among the elderly. The study was carried out in a small municipality of 10 000 inhabitants in Southern Norway, of whom15% were 65-year-olds or older. 178 replies out of 500 were obtained. Results showed that 9 out of 10 had access to and frequently used a computer at home. However, there still was 1 out of 5 who did not make effective use of ICT. Importantly, half of the resp…

#MeToo in school: teachers’ and young learners’ lived experience of verbal sexual harassment as a pedagogical opportunity

2020

Based on a case study of verbal sexual harassment experienced by a young female teacher and her 17-year-old student in a Norwegian upper secondary school, this article addresses challenges and strengths of drawing upon negative experiences of ‘lived injustice’ in class, arguing that such experiences can serve as a resource for education about, through and for human rights. Complementing this case study, we discuss a survey we have conducted among secondary school students (N=382), concerning how young learners report being sexually harassed and how often they experience that an adult intervenes in the situation. Combining the theoretical framework of human rights education (HRE) and the con…

Abstract Introduction An increasing number of Norwegian nursing students take part in exchange programmes in African countries. Reflective journals are often used to enhance clinical placements learning outcomes. Aim To identify the features that characterized students' experiences reported in their reflective journals during clinical placements in an African country in light of cultural competence. Methods Qualitative text analysis of 350 reflective journals written by 197 students taking part in an exchange programme in one of three African countries. Results The reflective journals were characterized by the students' personal emotions, judgements of others and comparisons between what th…

Dealing with Tensions in Technology Enabled Healthcare Innovation: Two Cases from the Norwegian Healthcare Sector

2017

In Chapter 5, Grisot, Vassilakopoulou and Aanestad examine patient-focused ICT applications, which extend traditional health information infrastructures and have the potential to transform the relation between patients and doctors, allowing for a more active patient role. However, new design challenges emerge because it is unclear how existing infrastructures can accommodate novel usage areas, and how they should be modified or even substituted. In this chapter, the authors’ research aim is to examine such challenges, framed as ‘design tensions’ in the context of ICT-enabled innovation processes in healthcare. Building on Information Infrastructure theory, the authors examine how such desig…

Information quality life cycle in secondary use of EHR data

2021

Abstract The paper argues that existing research on information quality (IQ) mainly focuses on the primary use of electronic health record (EHR) data, whereas IQ in secondary use of EHR data needs further deliberation. The current view of IQ in a healthcare context is static. It assumes that once the EHR system generates the information product, individual users may act on the information based on their subjective perception of its quality. However, this view ignores the complexities of secondary use of EHR data, in which users are actively involved in (re)generating and communicating the information product. Thus, IQ does not remain static but keeps on transforming through active engagemen…
