Iegurņa pamatnes disfunkcijas risku noteikšana grūtniecēm un to nozīme prevencijas taktikai nākotnē
2019
Non-syndromic Mitral Valve Dysplasia Mutation Changes the Force Resilience and Interaction of Human Filamin A
2018
International audience; Filamin A (FLNa), expressed in endocardial endothelia during fetal valve morphogenesis, is key in cardiac development. Missense mutations in FLNa cause non-syndromic mitral valve dysplasia (FLNA-MVD). Here, we aimed to reveal the currently unknown underlying molecular mechanism behind FLNA-MVD caused by the FLNa P637Q mutation. The solved crystal structure of the FLNa3-5 P637Q revealed that this mutation causes only minor structural changes close to mutation site. These changes were observed to significantly affect FLNa's ability to transmit cellular force and to interact with its binding partner. The performed steered molecular dynamics simulations showed that signi…
Prevalence of Levator Ani Defects in Urogynecological Patients
2016
Introduction: Defects of the levator ani muscle complex could represent a pathophysiological link between vaginal birth trauma and urogynecological symptoms many years later. The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of levator ani muscle defects using 3D or 4D ultrasound and palpation in urogynecological patients. Material and Methods: Urogynecological patients were retrospectively investigated using 3D or 4D ultrasound. Clinical examination consisted of palpation and 3D or 4D imaging of the levator ani muscle. Results: A total of 319 women were included in the analysis. Mean age was 64.9 years, average parity was 2.1. Stress incontinence was present in 50.8 %, overactive bladde…

Uterine preservation in pelvic organ prolapse and urinary stress incontinence using robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. Case report
2020
Highlights • Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) represents a common and bothersome condition in parous women. • The demand to “save” the uterus has fuelled a renewal of the surgical technique. • Robotic surgery was conceived with the intent to overcome the limitations of laparoscopic surgery. • The characteristics of the robotic system help surgeons to perform conservative management of POP.
Anterior/Apical single incision mesh (Elevate™): Surgical experience, anatomical and functional results, and long-term complications
2021
Abstract Objective Pelvic organ prolapse is a common condition among post-menopausal women, and surgery is often the standard treatment proposed. Native tissue vaginal surgery is burdened by a high rate of recurrence, and mesh vaginal surgery has become current practice. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and the effectiveness of the vaginal kit Anterior/Apical single incision mesh Elevate™ for the correction of anterior and apical compartment prolapse. Study design Data of patients with symptomatic anterior vaginal prolapse stage ≥ II, receiving mesh repair with the Anterior/Apical Elevate single incision system between January 2010 and January 2015 were retrieved. Prolap…
Deletion of 11q in Neuroblastomas Drives Sensitivity to PARP Inhibition
2017
AbstractPurpose: Despite advances in multimodal therapy, neuroblastomas with hemizygous deletion in chromosome 11q (20%–30%) undergo consecutive recurrences with poor outcome. We hypothesized that patients with 11q-loss may share a druggable molecular target(s) that can be exploited for a precision medicine strategy to improve treatment outcome.Experimental Design: SNP arrays were combined with next-generation sequencing (NGS) to precisely define the deleted region in 17 primary 11q-loss neuroblastomas and identify allelic variants in genes relevant for neuroblastoma etiology. We assessed PARP inhibitor olaparib in combination with other chemotherapy medications using both in vitro and in v…

Results of mitral valve repair for Barlow disease (bileaflet prolapse) via right minithoracotomy versus conventional median sternotomy: a randomized …
2011
Objective: The results of mitral repair for complex Barlow valves are adequate and support earlier intervention. It is unknown whether these results are reproducible in the context of minimally invasive surgery via right minithoracotomy. Methods: We randomized patients with Barlow mitral disease (bileaflet prolapse) to have conventional open repair via median sternotomy (MS group) or minimally invasive (MI group) repair. Repair was done using polytetrafluoroethylene chordal reimplantation for both leaflets. In the MI group, we adopted right minithoracotomy, peripheral cannulation, external aortic clamping, and surgery under direct vision. Results: Both groups comprised 70 patients. The oper…
