The aim of the work was to extract, characterize, and formulate Thymus capitatus (Tymbra capitata) essential oil in phospholipid vesicles: liposomes, glycerosomes and Penetration Enhancer-containing Vesicles (PEVs). The steam-distilled essential oil was mainly composed of carvacrol. The oil was mixed with lecithin and water to produce liposomes, or different ratios of water/glycerol or water/propylene glycol (PG) to produce glycerosomes and PG-PEVs, respectively. Oral mucositis is a severe complication of radiotherapy. Hence, it may constitute a serious medical safety risk for astronauts during extended space flights, such as missions to Mars, during which they are exposed to heavy-ion irradiation. Tissue-engineered oral mucosal equivalents have been developed for in vitro studies for a few years now. Objetivos: Este trabajo pretende, en base a nuestra experiencia, valorar y discutir las indicaciones, ventajas e inconvenientes de la exéresis de los épulis de la cavidad bucal con el láser de dióxido de carbono (CO2) respecto al láser de Erbio:YAG (Er: YAG), el láser de diodo y el bisturí frío. Material y método: Se ha realizado un estudio retrospectivo de un grupo de 120 pacientes en los que se extirparon 128 épulis con el láser de CO2, láser de Er:YAG, láser de diodo y bisturí frío. Survival of Patients with Oral Cavity Cancer in Germany

The purpose of the present study was to describe the survival of patients diagnosed with oral cavity cancer in Germany. The analyses relied on data from eleven population-based cancer registries in Germany covering a population of 33 million inhabitants. Patients with a diagnosis of oral cavity cancer (ICD-10: C00-06) between 1997 and 2006 are included. Period analysis for 2002-2006 was applied to estimate five-year age-standardized relative survival, taking into account patients' sex as well as grade and tumor stage. Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) refers to chronic orofacial pain, unaccompanied by mucosal lesions or other evident clinical signs. It is observed principally in middle-aged patients and postmenopausal women. BMS is characterized by an intense burning or stinging sensation, preferably on the tongue or in other areas of the oral mucosa. It can be accompanied by other sensory disorders such as dry mouth or taste alterations.
