Controlled thermal oxidation of nanostructured vanadium thin films

Abstract Pure V thin films were dc sputtered with different pressures (0.4 and 0.6 Pa) and particle incident angles α of 0°, 20° and 85°, by using the GLancing Angle Deposition (GLAD) technique. The sputtered films were characterized regarding their electrical resistivity behaviour in atmospheric pressure and in-vacuum conditions as a function of temperature (40–550 °C), in order to control the oxidation process. Quantification of relaxor behavior in (1 − x)Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 – xCaTiO3 lead-free ceramics system

Abstract This work examines the relaxor behavior of lead-free ceramic (1 − x)Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3–xCaTiO3 systems. A stable rhombohedral (R3c) phase is detected at room temperature for all compositions by XRD and Raman spectroscopy. Relaxor behavior was observed in the temperature range 300 K - 400 K for all materials. Ceramics exhibit normal ferroelectric properties at room temperature, and then they develop relaxor characteristics with increasing temperature showing the same dispersive properties. Normal and relaxor ferroelectric behavior in the Ba1−xPbx(Ti1−yZry)O3 solid solutions

Abstract Polycrystalline samples of Ba 1−x Pb x (Ti 1−y Zr y )O 3 (BPTZ) with x = 0.025 & 0.1 and 0.10 ≤ y ≤ 0.50 have been synthesized by high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. X-ray diffraction reveals the formation of single phase with tetragonal or cubic structure. Dielectric investigations were carried out in the temperature range from 80 to 445 K with frequencies range from 10 2 to 10 6 Hz. A broad dielectric anomaly coupled with the shift of dielectric maxima toward a higher temperature with increasing frequency indicates either a diffuse phase transition or relaxor behavior in some of these ceramics. The high-resolution stimulated Raman spectrum of the ν1 band of GeD4 with natural isotopic abundance germanium has been recorded. It has been analyzed as part of the ν1/ν3 stretching dyad. Origin of Enzymatic Kinetic Isotope Effects in Human Purine Nucleoside Phosphorylase

Here we report a study of the effect of heavy isotope labeling on the reaction catalyzed by human purine nucleoside phosphorylase (hPNP) to elucidate the origin of its catalytic effect and of the enzymatic kinetic isotope effect (EKIE). Using quantum mechanical and molecular mechanical (QM/MM) molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we study the mechanism of the hPNP enzyme and the dynamic effects by means of the calculation of the recrossing transmission coefficient. A free energy surface (FES), as a function of both a chemical and an environmental coordinate, is obtained to show the role of the environment on the chemical reaction. Quantum Dynamics of the 17O + 32O2 Collision Process

We report full quantum integral and differential cross sections and rate constants for the 17O + 32O2 reactive process. This constitutes the first quantum scattering study of the 17O16O16O system. We emphasize the comparison with the 18O + 32O2 collision in close connection to the mass-independent fractionation (hereafter referred to as MIF) puzzle for ozone in atmospheric chemistry. We find similar general trends in the cross sections and rate constants for both rare isotopes, but we note some singular behaviors peculiar to the use of 17O isotope, particularly at the lowest collision energies.

[EN] A novel mesoporous silica material containing boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) moieties (I) is employed for the detection of nerve agent simulants (NASs) and the organophosphate nerve or chemical warfare agents (CWAs) Sarin (GB), Soman (GD), and Tabun (GA) in aqueous environments. The reactive BODIPY dye with an optimum positioned hydroxyl group undergoes acylation reactions with phosph(on)ate substrates, yielding a bicyclic ring. Due to aggregation of the dyes in water, the sensitivity of the free dye in solution is very low. The Taming of Redox‐Labile Phosphidotitanocene Cations

International audience; Tame d0 phosphidotitanocene cations stabilized with a pendant tertiary phosphane arm are reported. These compounds were obtained by one-electron oxidation of d1 precursors with [Cp2Fe][BPh4]. The electronic structure of these compounds was studied experimentally (EPR, UV/Vis, and NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis) and through DFT calculations. The theoretical analysis of the bonding situation by using the electron localization function (ELF) shows the presence of π-interactions between the phosphido ligand and Ti in the d0 complexes, whereas dπ–pπ repulsion prevents such interactions in the d1 complexes.
