An Integrated Notional Defined Contribution (NDC) Model with Retirement and Permanent Disability

2014

In this paper we develop a theoretical basis for integrating retirement and permanent disability using a generic NDC framework. The methodology used relies on a multistate overlapping generations model that includes the so-called survivor dividend. Currently this feature can only be found in the Swedish defined contribution (DC) scheme. The results achieved in the numerical example we present endorse the fact that the model works well. Special attention is given to the assumptions made about mortality rates for disabled people and disability incidence rates, which largely determine the contribution rate assigned to disability. The model could be of interest to policymakers because, after so…

Notes on Using the Hidden Asset or the Contribution Asset to Compile the Actuarial Balance for Pay-as-You-Go Pension Systems

2010

The aim of this paper is twofold: to determine the connection between the “contribution asset” and the “hidden asset” and to discover whether using either of them to compile the actuarial balance in Swedish-type pay-as-you-go pension systems will provide a reliable solvency indicator. We develop an overlapping generations model and apply it to the defined benefit pay-as-you-go system, although it would be just as valid for NDC systems. On the theoretical side the main conclusion is that, despite their very different natures, in a simplified scenario the contribution asset and the hidden asset could coincide if r - the real rate of interest - is equal to the growth in the wage bill. On the a…

Identifying crime generators and spatially overlapping high-risk areas through a nonlinear model: A comparison between three cities of the Valencian …

2021

The behavior and spatial distribution of crime events can be explained through the characterization of an area in terms of its demography, socioeconomy, and built environment. In particular, recent studies on the incidence of crime in a city have focused on the identification of features of the built environment (specific places or facilities) that may increase crime risk within a certain radius. However, it is hard to identify environmental characteristics that consistently explain crime occurrence across cities and crime types. This article focuses on the assessment of the effect that certain types of places have on the incidence of property crime, robbery, and vandalism in three cities o…

Dinitrogen complexation with main group radicals

2011

In this report we present data from hyperfine sublevel correlation spectroscopy (HYSCORE), an electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopic technique, that reveals weak but distinct interactions between several main group element radicals and physically dissolved dinitrogen in solution. These interactions are the basis for a well-defined coordination of N2 to the paramagnetic centers. The complexes formed are primarily of the van der Waals-type but also feature a non-negligible orbital overlap between dinitrogen and the radicals' SOMO. Our spectroscopic findings are strongly supported by experiments with isotope-labeled 15N2, spectral simulations and quantum chemical and density funct…

Registration and fusion of segmented left atrium CT images with CARTO electrical maps for the ablative treatment of atrial fibrillation

2005

This study aims to extract the interior surface of the left atrium (LA) and pulmonary veins (PVs) from threedimensional tomographic data and to integrate it with LA CARTO electrical maps. The separation of LA and PVs from other overlapping structures of the heart was performed processing 3D CT data by marker-controlled watershed segmentation and surface extraction. CARTO maps were then registered on the L A internal surface by a stochastic optimization algorithm based on simulated annealing. The residual registration error resulted inferior to 3 mm. The integration between electrophysiological and high resolved anatomic information of LA results feasible and may constitute a significant sup…

Design e narrazioni

2022

The text arises from the need to focus on the cognitive methodological and design implications of the concept of storytelling increasingly recurrent in our daily experience especially for the many forms of communication and cultural productions that are inspired by itSettore ICAR/13 - Disegno Industrialeit is a concept that also in theoretical reflection and design planning is feeding strongly innovative and evolutionary dimensions in the construction communication of meanings intangible content experiences and emotional values that overlap and intertwine with the tangible and functional expression of objects communicative artifacts spaces.. It proposes a cognitive path tangent to the development of "narratology" and the theories of narrationthus we come across a multiplicity of disciplinary connections affecting sociology psychology anthropology philosophy semiotics and of course history cinema journalism advertising up to corporate communication and political propaganda. It is an articulated panorama that today seems to expand more and more and far from being mainly addressed to theoretical issues increasingly seems to be modeled on application performative and design aspects.

Semi-decentralized strategies in structural vibration control

2011

Published version of an article published in the journal: Modeling, Identification and Control. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4173/mic.2011.2.2 In this work, the main ideas involved in the design of overlapping and multi-overlapping controllers via the Inclusion Principle are discussed and illustrated in the context of the Structural Vibration Control of tall buildings under seismic excitation. A detailed theoretical background on the Inclusion Principle and the design of overlapping controllers is provided. Overlapping and multi-overlapping LQR controllers are designed for a simplied five-story building model. Numerical simulations are conducted to asses the pe…

Overlapping community detection versus ground-truth in AMAZON co-purchasing network

2015

International audience; Objective evaluation of community detection algorithms is a strategic issue. Indeed, we need to verify that the communities identified are actually the good ones. Moreover, it is necessary to compare results between two distinct algorithms to determine which is most effective. Classically, validations rely on clustering comparison measures or on quality metrics. Although, various traditional performance measures are used extensively. It appears very clearly that they cannot distinguish community structures with different topological properties. It is therefore necessary to propose an alternative methodology more sensitive to the community structure variations in orde…

INSTABILITY OF HAMILTONIAN SYSTEMS IN THE SENSE OF CHIRIKOV AND BIFURCATION IN A NON LINEAR EVOLUTION PROBLEM EMANATING FROM PHYSICS

2004

We prove the existence of a minimal geometrico-dynamical condition to create hyperbolicity in section in the vicinity of a transversal homoclinic partially hyperbolic torus in a near integrable Hamiltonian system with three degrees of freedom. We deduce in this context a generalization of the Easton's theorem of symbolic dynamics. Then we give the optimal estimation of the Arnold diffusion time along a transition chain in the initially hyperbolic Hamiltonian systems with three degrees of freedom with a surrounding chain of hyperbolic periodic orbits .In a second part, we describe geometrically a mechanism of diffusion studied by Chirikov in a near integrable Hamiltonian system with three de…

Chalcogen‐Bonding Interactions in Telluroether Heterocycles [Te(CH2)m]n(n=1–4;m=3–7)

2020

The Te⋅⋅⋅Te secondary bonding interactions (SBIs) in solid cyclic telluroethers were explored by preparing and structurally characterizing a series of [Te(CH2 )m ]n (n=1-4; m=3-7) species. The SBIs in 1,7-Te2 (CH2 )10 , 1,8-Te2 (CH2 )12 , 1,5,9-Te3 (CH2 )9 , 1,8,15-Te3 (CH2 )18 , 1,7,13,19-Te4 (CH2 )20 , 1,8,15,22-Te4 (CH2 )24 and 1,9,17,25-Te4 (CH2 )28 lead to tubular packing of the molecules, as has been observed previously for related thio- and selenoether rings. The nature of the intermolecular interactions was explored by solid-state PBE0-D3/pob-TZVP calculations involving periodic boundary conditions. The molecular packing in 1,7,13,19-Te4 (CH2 )20 , 1,8,15,22-Te4 (CH2 )24 and 1,9,17,…
