The THESEUS space mission concept: science case, design and expected performances

THESEUS is a space mission concept aimed at exploiting Gamma-Ray Bursts for investigating the early Universe and at providing a substantial advancement of multi-messenger and time-domain astrophysics. These goals will be achieved through a unique combination of instruments allowing GRB and X-ray transient detection over a broad field of view (more than 1sr) with 0.5¿1 arcmin localization, an energy band extending from several MeV down to 0.3¿keV and high sensitivity to transient sources in the soft X-ray domain, as well as on-board prompt (few minutes) follow-up with a 0.7¿m class IR telescope with both imaging and spectroscopic capabilities. Modeling Atmospheric Turbulence via Rapid Distortion Theory: Spectral Tensor of Velocity and Buoyancy

Abstract A spectral tensor model is presented for turbulent fluctuations of wind velocity components and temperature, assuming uniform vertical gradients in mean temperature and mean wind speed. The model is built upon rapid distortion theory (RDT) following studies by Mann and by Hanazaki and Hunt, using the eddy lifetime parameterization of Mann to make the model stationary. The buoyant spectral tensor model is driven via five parameters: the viscous dissipation rate ε, length scale of energy-containing eddies L, a turbulence anisotropy parameter , gradient Richardson number (Ri) representing the local atmospheric stability, and the rate of destruction of temperature variance . Multimessenger search for sources of gravitational waves and high-energy neutrinos: Initial results for LIGO-Virgo and IceCube

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2014-11-17 We report the results of a multimessenger search for coincident signals from the LIGO and Virgo gravitational-wave observatories and the partially completed IceCube high-energy neutrino detector, including periods of joint operation between 2007-2010. These include parts of the 2005-2007 run and the 2009-2010 run for LIGO-Virgo, and IceCube's observation periods with 22, 59 and 79 strings. Abstract Tisagenlecleucel (tisa‐cel) is a second‐generation autologous CD19‐targeted chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T‐cell therapy approved for relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B‐cell lymphoma (LBCL). The approval was based on the results of phase II JULIET trial, with a best overall response rate (ORR) and complete response (CR) rate in infused patients of 52% and 40%, respectively. We report outcomes with tisa‐cel in the standard‐of‐care (SOC) setting for R/R LBCL. Dynamics of complement activation in aHUS and how to monitor eculizumab therapy.

Atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome (aHUS) is associated with genetic complement abnormalities/anti–complement factor H antibodies, which paved the way to treatment with eculizumab. We studied 44 aHUS patients and their relatives to (1) test new assays of complement activation, (2) verify whether such abnormality occurs also in unaffected mutation carriers, and (3) search for a tool for eculizumab titration. An abnormal circulating complement profile (low C3, high C5a, or SC5b-9) was found in 47% to 64% of patients, irrespective of disease phase. Chemoimmunotherapy with O-FC in previously untreated patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia

We conducted an international phase 2 trial to evaluate 2 dose levels of ofatumumab, a human CD20 mAb, combined with fludarabine and cyclophosphamide (O-FC) as frontline therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Patients with active CLL were randomized to ofatumumab 500 mg (n = 31) or 1000 mg (n = 30) day 1, with fludarabine 25 mg/m2 and cyclophosphamide 250 mg/m2 days 2-4, course 1; days 1-3, courses 2-6; every 4 weeks for 6 courses. The first ofatumumab dose was 300 mg for both cohorts. The median age was 56 years; 13% of patients had a 17p deletion; 64% had β2-microglobulin > 3.5 mg/L. AIMS The present study sought to expand the current understanding of students' engagement by examining how situational engagement during a particular lesson is associated with the observed teacher-student classroom interactions (i.e., emotional support, instructional support, and classroom organization) in the same lesson. Latvijas Astronomijas biedrības arhīvā glabājas mezosfēras mākoņu (MC) novērojumu žurnāli par laika posmu no 1957. līdz 1983. gadam.. Tā kā pēdējos gados ir pieaugusi interese par MK novērojumu vēsturisko statistiku klimata pārmaiņu kontekstā, ir veikta šo žurnālu digitalizācija. Materiālā ir aprakstīts novērojumu žurnālu saturs un to digitalizācijas metodika. Paši digitalizētie žurnāli ir pieejami šajā LU repozitorija kolekcijā, kā MS Excel faili.

Mezosfēras mākoņu novērojumos sastopamas novērotāju piezīmes, kas sava apjoma dēļ nav ievietojamas žurnāla failā. Vairākos gadījumos novērotāji žurnālos ir arī pievienojuši grafiskas skices. Attiecīgās piezīmes tāpēc ievietotas atsevišķā teksta failā. Tās attiecas uz visu novērojumu periodu no 1957. līdz 1983.gadam un ir sakārtotas hronoloģiskā secībā. --//-- Mesospheric Cloud observation logs contain notes made by observers in the form of longer texts or graphic sketches. They are not included in the log files, as it would make them difficult to see and use. This volume contains notes on the entire observation period 1957-1983. They are arranged by observation sites in chronological order.
