Crystallization and preliminary X-ray studies of mouse centrin1.

The expression, purification, crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction studies of mouse centrin1 are reported. Centrins belong to a family of Ca{sup 2+}-binding EF-hand proteins that play a fundamental role in centrosome duplication and the function of cilia. To shed light on the structure–function relationship of these proteins, mouse centrin1 has been crystallized. The mouse centrin1 has been expressed in Escherichia coli as a GST-centrin fusion protein containing a thrombin protease cleavage site between the fusion partners. El Abrigo de la Quebrada (Chelva, Valencia) es un yacimiento con varios niveles de ocupación neandertal. El nivel IV, con dos dataciones de 43.930 ± 750 BP (Beta-244002) y >50,6 ka BP (OxA-24855), se caracteriza por su estructura de palimpsesto y la elevada densidad de restos arqueológicos (industria lítica, fauna, carbones y estructuras de combustión). El conjunto óseo se compone de 100.907 restos, con una mayor presencia de las familias Bovidae, Equidae, Cervidae y Testudinidae. La presencia de fracturas frescas, muescas de percusión y marcas de corte confirman el carácter antrópico de la muestra, así como las termoalteraciones. Deskilling and decline in skill premium during the age of sail : Swedish and Finnish seamen, 1751–1913

The study examines the evolution of skill premium and share at industry level in shipping during the age of sail. We argue that the period from the 1750s to the 1910s represented deskilling for the seamen working in sailing ships. The growth of international trade and shipping during the first era of globalization increased the overall demand for sailors but decreased the relative demand for skilled labor in favor of less skilled ones. This deskilling was associated with a decline in wage inequality, as the premium for high skilled seamen fell relative to mean wages in the shipping industry. Chiral cyclohexane based fluorescent chemosensors for enantiomeric discrimination of aspartate

Some new chiral cyclohexyl based fluorescent anion receptors have been synthesized and their absolute configuration has been determined by using circular dichroism (CD). Complexation experiments have been carried out with several dicarboxylates, and stoichiometries and complexation constants for the corresponding complexes have been determined. The chiral discrimination ability of these ligands for chiral dicarboxylates has been studied and the best results have been obtained with TMA aspartate.
