Increasing offensive or defensive efficiency? An analysis of Italian and Spanish football☆

2009

This paper analyses technical efficiency of Italian and Spanish football during three recent seasons, to shed light on the sport performance of professional football clubs. To achieve this we have used mathematical optimisation methods, particularly DEA models, which enable the calculation of the frontiers of efficient production. Some of the most interesting results are the following. Firstly, the Spanish league is clearly more homogeneous and competitive than the Italian league. Secondly, to obtain a better classification in the Italian league, it is much more important to improve defensive, rather than offensive, efficiency. The popular maxim holds in Italy: the best attack begins with a…

Modelling Offices Through Discourse Analysis: A Comparison and Evaluation of SAMPO with OSSAD and ICN

1992

In a previous paper the importance of framing office communications in terms of discourse analysis was explored. 2 It also presented an approach based on speech acts and conversations to allow this framing to occur. The approach was termed SAMPO. In this paper, we continue the discussion on discourse analysis by comparing SAMPO with two prominent office modelling approaches, Information Control Nets (ICN) and OSSAD, and discuss its merits in modelling office communications.

2020

Master's thesis in Management (ORG917) Employee-surveys can be a tool for organizational learning. A lot of time and resources are used in the municipalities on choosing tools, training and implementation of employee-surveys. The communicative quality of management between the management level in the municipality can have great impact on organizational learning. With the above as background, became the study's problem as follows: How is the employee survey used as a tool for organizational learning in the municipalities, and does the tool have significance for communication and learning across the organizational level in the municipalities? The survey was conducted as a comparative case stu…

Il ruolo degli spin-off universitari.

2013

Assessment of the toxicity of a pesticide with a two-generation reproduction test using Daphnia magna.

2000

Abstract Daphnia magna (F 0 generation) were exposed during 21 days to different diazinon concentrations. Offspring (animals from the first and third brood: F 1 (1st) and F 1 (3rd), respectively) were transferred to a free pesticide medium during a 21-day recovery period. The algae Nannochloris oculata (5×10 5 cells/ml) were used as food. In this recovery study, survival, growth and reproduction (mean total young per female, mean brood size, onset of reproduction and mean number broods per female) were assessed as individual parameters, and the intrinsic rate of natural increase ( r ) as population parameter for F 1 (1st and 3rd broods) daphnids. Reproduction as well as survival was still r…

Physiological Perturbations in Several Generations of Daphnia magna Straus Exposed to Diazinon

2000

Abstract Daphnia magna was exposed to sublethal diazinon concentrations (0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0 ng/L) for 21 days. The algae Nannochloris oculata (5×10 5 cells/mL) was used to feed the daphnids. Chronic toxicity tests were carried out using neonates of F 1 (first brood) and F 1 (third brood) offspring generations from parentals (F 0 ) preexposed to the organophosphate. The effect of diazinon on survival, reproduction, and growth was monitored for the selected daphnid generations. The parameters used to evaluate pesticide effect on reproduction were mean total young per female, mean brood size, time to first reproduction, mean number broods per female, and intrinsic rate of natural in…

The Influence of Institutionally Embedded Ownership on Anglo-American Corporate Governance Migration into Emerging Economy IPO Firms

2017

We argue that the corporate governance of emerging economy IPO firms is influenced by firm-specific institutionally embedded block ownership groups. Applying an extended institutional logic perspective and using a mixed-effects ordered probit model, our findings from 190 IPO-firms from 22 African countries 2000‒2016, support the notion that five major block owner categories (corporate, private equity, non-executive, business group, state) exerts very different influence on African firms’ degree of adoption of Anglo-American corporate governance measures. We find that the influence from the various block owner groups is significantly moderated by institutional quality and tribalism, but to d…

Historical memory and forgetting in the teaching of history : the case of Japan and Italy

2015
