In the article linguistic behaviour of residents of a part Olesno district has been presented. The above mentioned area (excluding the communes of Praszka and Rudniki) historically belongs to Silesia. In the survey two methods have been applied: firstly, that of a questionnaire, in which respondents declared the use of an appropriate language code depending on the communicative situation, and -secondly-the method of direct observation. In both cases the achieved results are generally consistent. The study takes up the subject of the history of the Catholic community living in the town of Olesno and the surrounding villages, belonging to the Olesno parish. Thanks to the marriage records in Polish language from 1819-1829, preserved in the National Archives in Opole, it is possible to present using statistical methods: how many weddings took place in the parish in particular months of the year, what day of the week was most often chosen for a wedding, what was the marital status of the newlyweds, their age at the time of marriage, along with their social and geographical origin.
