PURPOSE To evaluate the influence of static (not preloaded) and thermomechanical loading on the load to fracture of metal-ceramic, monolithic and veneered zirconia computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) posterior fixed partial dentures (FPDs). MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred standardized specimens with 2 abutments screwed onto a platform were prepared from stainless steel to receive a posterior 3-unit FPD with an intermediate pontic. Statement of problem In contrast to gold crowns, in vitro determination of the retentive strength of all-ceramic crowns is more difficult because components allowing connection to testing apparatus are not as easily integrated into the all-ceramic material. Adsorption mechanism of arsenate by zirconyl-functionalized activated carbon

Arsenate [As(V)] and arsenite [As(III)] sorption at the solid-water interface of activated carbon impregnated with zirconyl nitrate (Zr-AC) was investigated using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and surface complexation modeling. The XAS data at the Zr K-edge suggest that the structure of the zirconyl nitrate coating is built from chains of edge-sharing ZrO8 trigonal dodecahedra bound to each other through two double hydroxyl bridges. The 8-fold coordination of each Zr atom is completed by four O atoms, which share a bit less than the two theoretically possible bidentate nitrate groups. Abstract The presence of ammonium ion in rainwater is due to atmospheric processes which involve its scavenging from gas phase and particulate matter. The fractionated samplings of rainwater can provide information about these processes and their potential sources. Determination of nitrogen in hydrolyzed protein formulations by continuous vapour phase FTIR.

An on-line system with vapour generation (VG) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometric detection has been developed for the determination of free ammonium and organic nitrogen in agrochemical formulations containing hydrolyzed proteins. Commercial samples were digested, in batch mode, with sulphuric acid and the obtained solution was alkalinized on-line to transform the NH(4)(+) to NH(3) that was continuously monitored by FTIR. Fluorimetric determination of 1-naphthol and mixtures of carbaryl and 1-naphthol in micellar media

The interaction of 1-naphthol with different types of anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants has been studied spectrofluorimetrically in order to obtain a sensitivity enhancement in the determination of this compound. At neutral pH, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) provides a 2-fold sensitivity enhancement of 1-naphthol and exhibits a weak interaction with carbaryl. In strong alkaline medium carbaryl is hydrolyzed to 1-naphthol and in the presence of CTAB micells, a 5-fold sensitivity enhancement and a limit of detection of 0.2 μg·ml−1 with a 101±3% percentage of recovery is obtained. Ion mobility spectrometry as a fast analytical tool in benzalkonium chloride homologs determination.

Abstract A novel procedure is proposed for the determination by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) of C 12 , C 14 and C 16 benzalkonium chloride (BAC) homologs. The proposed method requires minimum sample treatment and the measurement was made in less than one minute. A high sensitivity was obtained for BAC determination by IMS with limit of detection values from 37 to 69 µg L −1 . Accuracy of the proposed methodology was evaluated through the analysis of aqueous and alcoholic samples spiked with BAC at concentration levels from 0.002% to 20% (w/v), providing recovery values from 91% to 104%. Abstract A flow procedure is proposed for the determination of ammonium ion. The sample in basic medium is forced through a solid-phase reactor containing immobilized AgCl on polymeric pearl beads. The released Ag + , complexed with the ammonia, gives a blue ternary complex with the aid of bromopyrogallol red and 1,10-phenanthroline which is spectrophotometrically monitored at 636 nm. The calibration graph is linear over the range 1–20 μg ml −1 ammonium ion, detection limit ( s / n  = 3)  0.35 μg ml −1 and relative standard deviation (slope) 1.9 % ( n  = 7). Capillary electrophoresis (CE) was coupled to ICPMS in order to combine the good performance of this separation technique with the high sensitivity of the ICPMS for the analysis of plutonium and neptunium oxidation states. The combination of a fused-silica capillary with a MicroMist AR 30-I-FM02 nebulizer and a Cinnabar small-volume cyclonic spray chamber yielded the best separation results. With this setup, it was possible to separate a model element mixture containing neptunium (NpO2(+)), uranium (UO2(2+)), lanthanum (La3+), and thorium (Th4+) in 1 M acetic acid. A tandem-flow assembly for the chemiluminometric determination of hydroquinone

A direct chemiluminescent procedure for determination of hydroquinone based on the emergent flow methodology known as multicommutation or tandem-flow is presented for first time. The manifold was based on a set of three channels and three solenoid valves; and, the determination was performed at 60degreesC and at flow-rate of 7.5 ml min(-1). The complete cycle lasted 35 s, which resulted in a sample flow trough of 103 h(-1).
