Search for anomalous top-quark couplings with the D0 detector

2008

Anomalous Wtb couplings modify the angular correlations of the top quark decay products and change the single top quark production cross section. We present limits on anomalous top quark couplings by combining information from W boson helicity measurements in top quark decays and anomalous coupling searches in the single top quark final state. We set limits on right-handed vector couplings as well as left-handed and right-handed tensor couplings based on about 1fb^-1 of data collected by the D0 experiment.

Smooth surjections and surjective restrictions

Given a surjective mapping $f : E \to F$ between Banach spaces, we investigate the existence of a subspace $G$ of $E$, with the same density character as $F$, such that the restriction of $f$ to $G$ remains surjective. We obtain a positive answer whenever $f$ is continuous and uniformly open. In the smooth case, we deduce a positive answer when $f$ is a $C^1$-smooth surjection whose set of critical values is countable. Finally we show that, when $f$ takes values in the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^n$, in order to obtain this result it is not sufficient to assume that the set of critical values of $f$ has zero-measure.

Review and comparison of experimental techniques used for determination of thin film electro-optic coefficients

The results of electro-optic coefficient measurements performed with three commonly applied techniques used to assess electro-optic coefficients: the Mach–Zehnder, the Teng–Man, and the attenuated total reflectance technique are reported. It is shown that the signal obtained by the Mach–Zehnder and Teng–Man techniques is strongly influenced by the multiple internal reflection and piezo- and electrostrictive thickness change effects, which in our opinion have not been addressed sufficiently in the literature. Stability of degenerate parabolic Cauchy problems

2015

We prove that solutions to Cauchy problems related to the $p$-parabolic equations are stable with respect to the nonlinearity exponent $p$. More specifically, solutions with a fixed initial trace converge in an $L^q$-space to a solution of the limit problem as $p>2$ varies.

As the Nagel–Schreckenberg model (NaSch model) became known as a realistic approach to describe traffic flow on single-lane streets, this model was extended to two-lane traffic by several groups. On the base of our two-lane model, we will now investigate the impact of a place of obstruction, e.g., because of road works, on partial fractions, densities and mean velocities.

A method for genome-wide analysis of DNA helical tension by means of psoralen-DNA photobinding

The helical tension of chromosomal DNA is one of the epigenetic landmarks most difficult to examine experimentally. The occurrence of DNA crosslinks mediated by psoralen photobinding (PB) stands as the only suitable probe for assessing this problem. PB is affected by chromatin structure when is done to saturation; but it is mainly determined by DNA helical tension when it is done to very low hit conditions. Hence, we developed a method for genome-wide analysis of DNA helical tension based on PB. Noisy dynamics in long and short Josephson junctions

The study of nonlinear dynamics in long Josephson junctions and the features of a particular kind of junction realized using a graphene layer, are the main topics of this research work. The superconducting state of a Josephson junction is a metastable state, and the switching to the resistive state is directly related to characteristic macroscopic quantities, such as the current the voltage across the junction, and the magnetic field through it. We study diffeomorphisms of a closed connected manifold whose non-wandering set has a non-empty interior and conjecture that C1-generic diffeomorphisms whose non-wandering set has a non-empty interior are transitive.
