Anterior dislocation in a total knee arthroplasty: A case report and literature review.

Dislocations of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are an uncommon injury and only few cases of anterior dislocations have been reported. We report a rare case of anterior dislocation of a 10-year-old posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty in a 74-year-old woman. The patient was successfully treated by close reduction of the dislocation followed by immobilization in full extension with a long leg cast. Because of a high risk of neurovascular complications, a high index of suspicion for vascular injury must be maintained. For this reason, a proper diagnosis is required and immediate reduction is recommended.

Operator-Related Errors and Pitfalls in Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry: How to Recognize and Avoid Them.

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the most common modality for quantitative measurements of bone mineral density. Nevertheless, errors related to this exam are still very common, and may significantly impact on the final diagnosis and therapy. Operator-related errors may occur during each DXA step and can be related to wrong patient positioning, error in the acquisition process or in the scan analysis. The aim of this review is to provide a practical guide on how to recognize such errors in spine and hip DXA scan and how to avoid them, also presenting some of the most common artifacts encountered in clinical practice.

The effect of cement fixation on initial micromotion of the femoral component in condylar knee replacement

Four fresh, cadaveric specimens were fitted with total knee replacements and mounted on a knee joint loading and measuring rig. Femoral component micromotion in the sagittal plane was measured with a transducer during flexion and extension of the specimen. Various condylar designs were used without and with cement. Movement followed a characteristic curve pattern and was less with cement fixation particularly for bone of low trabecular strength as determined by bone sample tests for stiffness. Cement fixation appears to be superior to cementless fixation.

Percutaneous iliosacral screw fixation is a widely accepted method of stabilizing the posterior pelvic ring. Recently developed tools such as 3D-navigated fluoroscopy and computed navigation seem to prevent a surgeon from conducting screw misplacement. The study aimed to comparatively assess the introduction of sacroiliac screw placement using 2D and 3D fluoroscopy in terms of accuracy and radiation exposure. Quando eu era criança, imaginava que tudo na Itália tinha o cheiro e a forma das músicas de Lucio Dalla. Do primeiro Lucio Dalla. Hoje, Dalla representa um pouco a imagem triste da decadência da parte mais bela do país onde escolhi viver. Um pouco como aquelas virgens deprimidas e infelizes que a religião católica impõe aos seus fiéis. Na gênese, Lucio Dalla era de esquerda, genial, "malgré lui". Em 1976, pouco antes que eu nascesse, seu amigo Chico Buarque, que o tinha conhecido quando exilado na Itália, lhe escreveu uma carta sobre um Brasil em plena ditadura. Uma das músicas mais visionarias da historia da MPB: "Meu Caro Amigo".
