Background: A high-volume center with a multidisciplinary team is regarded as the optimal place for providing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). We hypothesize that an ECMO center can also be successfully created and subsequently developed entirely by intensivists in a mid-size mixed intensive care unit (ICU). Hepatocyte transplantation, a step forward?

Hepatocyte transplantation emerged a few decades ago as a possible strategy to overcome some of the limitations of liver transplantation, among them the availability of organ donors and the functional quality of grafts. Nowadays, allogenic cell transplantation is still to be confirmed as a viable therapeutic option for patients with hereditary metabolic liver diseases. Although we have now overseen 5 decades of basic and animal research in the field, the number of successfully treated patients remains low. Limitations in cell engraftment and selective proliferation of transplanted cells remain a constraint to the generalized use of this therapeutic approach.

To estimate the sensitivity of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a diagnostic test in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, as well as its correlation with arthroscopic findings. Methods. Retrospective analysis of 270 patients who underwent ACL reconstruction surgery in our health department between 2007 and 2017. ACL injuries were diagnosed by radiologists specialized in musculoskeletal pathology, while the correlation between radiological and arthroscopic findings was determined through statistical analysis.
