Building Bridges for Innovation in Ageing: Synergies between Action Groups of the EIP on AHA.

2017

The Strategic Implementation Plan of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) proposed six Action Groups. After almost three years of activity, many achievements have been obtained through commitments or collaborative work of the Action Groups. However, they have often worked in silos and, consequently, synergies between Action Groups have been proposed to strengthen the triple win of the EIP on AHA. The paper presents the methodology and current status of the Task Force on EIP on AHA synergies. Synergies are in line with the Action Groups' new Renovated Action Plan (2016-2018) to ensure that their future objectives are coherent and fully connected. The …

The place of frailty and vulnerability in the surgical risk assessment: should we move from complexity to simplicity?

2018

Due to aging of the world population, older patients accessing health services are becoming continuously more frequent. This has increased the interest in assessing frailty and vulnerability in all specialties and general medicine. Although the term frailty has been recognized for over 30 years, there is not yet a universally recognized definition, and different care providers assess frailty and vulnerability with dissimilar tools, from very complex to very simple validated scales. Being treated with respect and dignity at the right time and place is the key message, as well as after undergoing a global evaluation both in urgency/emergency and in programmed surgery for all older surgical pa…

Las capacidades dinámicas en la Internacionalización de las empresas y cooperativas agroalimentarias integradas en clusters. Dynamic capabilities in …

2017

Notes on the Use of the Tables of Standard ISO 7730 for the Evaluation of the PMV Index

1996

Standard ISO 7730, which is also known as European Standard EN-ISO 7730, provides two alternative methods for the evaluation of the predicted mean vote (PMV) index: a calculation program and a set of tables. In order to use the tables, the operative temperature must be calculated beforehand. The impres sion is given from reading the standard that for a relative humidity of 50%, the two methods are equivalent, i.e. provide the same value for PMV, from the same initial values. In this paper, examples are given showing that the two methods are not equivalent. Differences between them are analysed and a proposal made to introduce an amendment in the next revision of the stan dard.

Haemostatic agents on the shear bond strength of self-adhesive resin

2015

Background Dentin surface contaminated with haemostatic agents can interfere with the bonding of self-adhesive resin cement. Therefore the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various haemostatic agents such as Aluminium chloride, Ferric sulphate and Tannic acid on the shear bond strength of self-adhesive resin luting agent. Material and Methods The buccal surfaces of extracted premolars were flattened to expose the dentine. The teeth were then randomly divided into four groups. In Group I Aluminium Chloride was applied on the flattened dentinal surface, in Group II Ferric Sulphate was applied to exposed dentin surface, in Group III tannic acid was applied on to the dentinal …

FISSIT (Fistula Surgery in Italy) study: A retrospective survey on the surgical management of anal fistulas in Italy over the last 15 years

2021

Background: Surgical treatment of anal fistulas is still a challenge. The aims of this study were to evaluate the adoption and healing rates for the different surgical techniques used in Italy over the past 15 years. Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective observational study of patients affected by simple and complex anal fistulas of cryptoglandular origin who were surgically treated in the period 2003–2017. Surgical techniques were grouped as sphincter-cutting or sphincter-sparing and as technology-assisted or techno-free. All patients included in the study were followed for at least 12 months. Results: A total of 9,536 patients (5,520 simple; 4,016 complex fistulas) entered the stu…

TAP Block Prior to Open Ventral Hernia Repair Improves Surgical Outcome.

2022

Abstract Background Ventral hernias commonly affect patients after major abdominal surgery. To reduce postoperative pain, the effects of the transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block, epidural analgesia and medication-only protocol have been investigated. The primary outcome was the cumulative dosage of opioids (morphine milligram equivalents MME), of acetaminophen and diclofenac for postoperative pain control on postoperative day (POD) 0, 1, and 2. Secondary outcomes were length of stay (LOS) and the pain scale rating using the numeric rating scale (NRS) on POD 0, 1, and 2. Methods The data were retrospectively extracted from the charts of the patients admitted for a surgical operation for O…

ESRA19-0640 The effect of intravenous dexamethasone on pain relief, blood glucose and lactate levels after hip atheroplasty

2019

Background and aims Dexamethasone provides anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, but induces hyperglycemia and may increase serum lactate. the aim was to determine the effect of dexamethasoneon analgesia, blood glucose and lactate after hip arthroplasty. Methods This prospective randomized study includes 32 patients undergoing hip replacement. It was provided SA and patients received multimodal analgesia. the experimental group received Dexamethasone 8 mg i/v before surgery and 4 mg i/v in a 6 and 12 hours after the first dose. the control group did not receive any glucocorticoids. Blood glucose and lactate were measured before surgery,at 18:00 and 6:00 on the POD1. Patients filled in a p…

Convection, diffusion and reaction in a surface-based biosensor: Modeling of cooperativity and binding site competition on the surface and in the hyd…

2005

We study theoretically the transport and kinetic processes underlying the operation of a biosensor (particularly the surface plasmon sensor "Biacore") used to study the surface binding kinetics of biomolecules in solution to immobilized receptors. Unlike previous studies, we concentrate mainly on the modeling of system-specific phenomena rather than on the influence of mass transport limitations on the intrinsic kinetic rate constants determined from binding data. In the first problem, the case of two-site binding where each receptor unit on the surface can accommodate two analyte molecules on two different sites is considered. One analyte molecule always binds first to a specific site. Sub…

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Hemodynamics, intra-mucosal pH and regulators of circulation during perioperative epidural analgesia

2000
