Synthesis and magnetic properties of an iron 1,2-bisthienyl perfluorocyclopentene photochromic coordination compound

2011

Abstract The coordination compound Fe(BM-4-PTP) 2 (NCS) 2 ⋅2MeOH ( 1 ) including the photoisomerizable ligand BM-4-PTP (1,2-bis(2′-methyl-5′-(pyrid-4″-yl)thien-3′-yl)perfluorocyclopentene) was obtained as an orange powder. The powder turns blue upon photocyclization of the 1,2-bisthienyl photochromic ligand induced by UV light irradiation at room temperature. Photocycloreversion is obtained by visible light irradiation of the material in the solid state. The orange and blue powders were investigated over the temperature range (5–293 K) and pressure range (1 bar–12 kbar) by magnetic susceptibility measurements and variable temperature 57 Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. The photo-induced colour ch…

The synergy between the CsPbBr3 nanoparticle surface and the organic ligand becomes manifest in a demanding carbon–carbon coupling reaction

2020

We demonstrate here the suitability of CsPbBr3nanoparticles as photosensitizers for a demanding photoredox catalytic homo- and cross-coupling of alkyl bromides at room temperature by merely using visible light and an electron donor, thanks to the cooperative action between the nanoparticle surface and organic capping. On the phase transition in CsCN

1983

X-ray diffraction and dielectric measurements have been performed on the molecular crystal CsCN as a function of temperature. The order parameter of the cubic to rhombohedral phase transition (Tc=186 K) was determined and interpreted by a coupling of the (CN)− orientations to the shear strain. At lower temperatures the dielectric response is dominated by thermally activated relaxations processes rather than by electrical ordering of the CN dipoles.

Phase Transition of SBN: Ce Studied by Anisotropic Holographic Scattering

1991

Light scattering phenomena in (Sr0.61Ba0.39) Nb2O6:Ce are investigated from room temperature to the phase transition temperature. Temperature dependence and sign of the birefringence are determined from anisotropic holographic scattering at a wavelength of 514.5 nm. The majority charge carriers are electrons.

Phases and phase transitions of (NaCl)1?x(NaCN)x

1985

(NaCl)1−x(NaCN)x mixed crystals with CN-concentrationsx of 0.87, 0.76, 0.71 and 0.65 have been investigated by X-ray powder diffraction. Apart from the cubic room temperature phase, a rhombohedral and an orthorhombic phase have been identified. In addition a glass state has been observed which is characterized by a strong broadening of the cubic powder lines. The phase diagram shows a wide coexistence gap between the non-cubic phases and the glass state.

Phases and phase transitions in the mixed molecular system (NaCN)1x(KCN)x

1990

The phase diagram of (NaCN)1−x(KCN)x was examined by neutron powder diffraction in the temperature range 5K ≦T≦300 K. Several non-cubic low-temperature phases were identified for concentrationsx<xc1=0.15 andx≧xc2=0.89. Lattice parameters and ferroelastic deformations were determined from the observed powder patterns. The phase transformations were characterized following the temperature dependence of the appropriate order parameters.

Detection of phase transitions in thin films with a quartz crystal microbalance

1996

Abstract The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) is used to determine the phase transition point of thin films by measuring the change in frequency as a function of temperature. To elucidate this relationship, two types of polymers were studied where the bulk phase transitions were known. We investigated a casted thin film of an amphiphilic polyoxazoline and a Langmuir-Blodgett film comprised of fifteen double layers of an amphotropic polyacrylate. The phase transition points of the thin films could be detected by the QCM which were in the same range as for the bulk materials.

Structure and elastic properties of smectic liquid crystalline elastomer films

2001

Mechanical measurements, x-ray investigations, and optical microscopy are employed to characterize the interplay of chemical composition, network topology, and elastic response of smectic liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) in various mesophases. Macroscopically ordered elastomer films of submicrometer thicknesses were prepared by cross linking freely suspended smectic polymer films. The cross-linked material preserves the mesomorphism and phase transitions of the precursor polymer. The elastic response of the smectic LCE is entropic, and the corresponding elastic moduli are of the order of MPa. In the tilted ferroelectric smectic-C* phase, the network structure plays an important role. Du…

Spin-crossover iron(ii) complex showing thermal hysteresis around room temperature with symmetry breaking and an unusually high T(LIESST) of 120 K.

2019

We report a Fe(II) complex based on 4′,4′′ carboxylic acid disubstituted dipyrazolylpyridine that shows a spin-crossover close to room temperature associated to a crystallographic phase transition and the LIESST effect with a high T(LIESST) of 120 K.
