Radiative recombination in a strong laser field: low-frequency approximation

A theoretical treatment of the laser-assisted radiative recombination (LARR) is presented in which the low-frequency (LF) assumption is exploited. The merit of the proposed LF approximation is twofold. First, the LF approximation considerably simplifies the calculations of the transition rates, whereas the results obtained within this approximation are only slightly different from those obtained without resorting to it. Second, the LF approximation gives more insight into the physical picture of the process, which may be viewed as a two-step process. Abstract The contrast depth is analyzed as well, that is the sensitivity of electron mirror microscope to disorders of homogeneity on the object (local magnetic and electric fields, surface relief). Because of the latter ones, electron trajectories feel disturbances (electrons acquire additional increment velocity in radial and azimuthal directions), which leads to the shift of the observed point on the screen and, as a consequence, to the image contrast. Since the electron energy, when reflected, tends to zero, electrons are influenced by heterogeneities for a long time. Nonlinear dynamics induced by optical shocks formation

2006

This paper reports on recent studies suggesting that optical shocks can rule the dynamics of cw (or quasi-cw) optical field propagating in glass when common phenomena such as four-wave mixing in fibers or catastrophic self-focusing in bulk are considered. The post-shock oscillations evolve into colliding dark solitons that determine the output pattern in a non-recurrent fashion. This scenario based on the defocusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation and its reduction to a hydrodynamical model is substantially confirmed by our experimental data consisting of recorded output spectra and temporal patterns retrieved from SHG-FROG traces. The dynamics of the electron in a homonuclear driven molecular ion

Abstract The radiation diffused by a one-dimensional homonuclear molecular ion driven by a laser field is studied as a function of the time. When the photon energy is resonant with the energy gap between the ground and the first excited state, the electronic probability density is seen to undergo slow and deep oscillations between the two nuclei. Synchronous to such oscillations, deep modulations of the emitted power are observed. The period of oscillation is of the order of 10 optical cycles. Detection of the variation in the intensity of the emitted electromagnetic spectrum therefore brings information on the position of the electron in the molecule.

Effects of the magnetodipolar interactions in the alternating magnetic fields

A macroscopic theory for the description of the structure formation in a system of magnetic dipoles under the action of a high-frequency rotating field is presented. Continuum equations for the effective magnetic field strength describing particle interactions are derived. It is shown that, contrary to the case of a constant magnetic field, where the demagnetizing field arising from a concentration fluctuation stabilizes the system with respect to the phase separation, the same concentration fluctuation will be amplified in the case of a rotating magnetic field, leading to the formation of a layered structure. Models, predictions, and experimental measurements of far-infrared NH3-laser dynamics and comparisons with the Lorenz-Haken model

Dynamics of the intensity and optical field amplitude of a coherently pumped far-infrared NH3-laser are measured and characterized. The experimental findings in certain parameter ranges closely follow the dynamics of the Lorenz model and its generalization for laser systems. Similarities and some specific differences are found in geometrical or statistical characterizations of the attractors. The experimental results are also consistent with the results of a model of optically pumped three-level lasers which takes into account the presence of a multiplicity of velocity groups as well as three-level coherence effects. CONTROL OF RADIATIVE RECOMBINATION BY A STRONG LASER FIELD

Strong-field laser-assisted radiation recombination is investigated: (a) to explore the control possibilities with two laser fields having commensurable frequencies and (b) to get some insight into the influence of the medium (a plasma) in which recombination occurs. It is found that by varying the relative phase of the two fields it is possible to control enhancement, broadening and symmetry properties of the recombination differential emitted power. In the case of an anisotropic two-temperature plasma, an interesting interplay is found between the shape of the laser-modified electron velocity distribution function and the shape of the emitted X-ray photon power spectrum. Our simple theory for excitation of Rydberg atoms by two short, weak half-cycle pulses confirms the experimental data and results of previous calculations. We show that the stronger the field, the faster are the oscillations of the population .

Modelling Optical Resonators Probed by Subwavelength Sized Optical Detectors

The possibility of mapping the optical field structure inside a Fabry-Perot resonator by using a pointed optical fiber was recently reported [1]. In this contribution, we propose a simulation of such near-field optical experiments by using a two-dimensional self-consistent model. The method based on the discretization of four different domains, i.e. the two mirrors, the glass sample and the tip, allows us a meaningful description of the evolution of the full field pattern when approaching the optical detector.
