Low molecular mass organic compounds which make thin films from volatile organic solutions would be great benefit in future organic light emitting systems. Two most important advantages could be mentioned. First - the repetition of synthesis of small molecules is better than for polymers. Second - wet casting methods could be used. Theoretical and Spectroscopic Studies On Imino-carbon Palladated Pyridine-2-carbaldimines

Abstract Ab initio LCAO-MO-SCF calculations on the model compounds C 5 H 4 N-2-C(R 1 )=NH [R 1 = H ( 2c ) and R 1 = trans -PdCl(PH 3 ) 2 ( 4c )] indicate that the E - trans conformation is favored over the E - cis one by 16.9 kJ mol −1 for 2c and by 25.0 kJ mol −1 for 4c . One of the factors which stabilizes the E-trans arrangement for 4c is a weak bonding interaction between the palladium center and the pyridine nitrogen. On going from 2c to 4c a slight charge enrichment on the pyridine carbons and a more pronounced one on the nitrogen atoms is computed, whereas the charge density of the imino carbon atom is decreased. Evaluation of a pilot-scale biotrickling filter as a VOC control technology for the plastic coating sector

Abstract The performance and feasibility of a biotrickling filter (BTF) pilot unit for the treatment of exhaust gases from two robotic spray paint booths at a plastic coating facility were investigated. The volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations in the emissions of the exhaust gases from the paint booths were relatively stable, although the VOC composition depended on the applied solvent-paint formulation in the booths. The pilot plant was operated for one year at empty bed residence times (EBRTs) ranging from 30 to 93 s. The performance of the system was affected by the solvent-paint formulations. This work presents the results of an assessment of the existence and concentration of 13 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in groundwaters from 14 hydrological basins in Sicily (25,710km (2)). On the basis of hydrological, hydrogeochemical and geological studies, 324 sampling points were selected. All groundwater sampled were collected twice, from October to December 2004 and from February to May 2005, and were analysed to determine the concentration and spatial distribution of the VOCs in the aquifers. Odorant-binding protein-based optoelectronic tongue and nose for sensing volatile organic compounds

International audience; We developed an array of odorant-binding protein mutants with various binding properties. The same design is suitable for the detection and identification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) both in the liquid phase and in the gas phase by surface plasmon resonance imaging. The obtained optoelectronic tongue is highly selective at low concentrations of VOCs with a low detection limit, but a narrow linear range. In comparison, the optoelectronic nose gives a much higher signal to noise ratio, but the discrimination of VOCs from different chemical classes requires kinetic data to get rid of non-specific signals. Partition of volatile compounds in pea globulin–maltodextrin aqueous two-phase system

International audience; This study is based on the assumption that the off-flavour of pea proteins might be decreased using the retention of volatile compounds by a mixture with another biopolymer. The partition of volatile compounds in an aqueous system containing pea protein and maltodextrins was followed under thermodynamic incompatibility conditions. Sorption kinetic of aroma compounds by edible bio-based films from marine-by product macromolecules: Effect of relative humidity conditions

International audience; Edible films based on gelatin and chitosan have high gas and aroma barrier properties. This study focused on their capability to sorbed/retain aroma compounds (1-hexanal, 2-hexen-1-ol, 1-hexanol, 3-hexanone and phenol) at three relative humidity level (≤2%, 53% or 84% RH). Whatever the relative humidity condition, the order of sorption is keton (3-hexanone) < aldehyde (1-hexanal) < aliphatic alcohols (2-hexen-1-ol and 1-hexanol) < phenol. BACKGROUND: The replacement of fat by thickeners in fat-free yoghurts leads to an important modification of aroma compound partitioning, with an impact on aroma perception. Investigation of retention/release equilibria allows a good understanding of aroma compound behaviour depending on food composition. Abstract The molecular crystal (KBr) 0.47 (KCN) 0.53 has been investigated by elastic neutron diffraction at the transition from the paraelastic to the orientational glass state. The freezing temperature is characterized by the onset of a momentum transfer dependent broadening of the diffraction lines indicating the transition from a crystalline to an amorphous state.
