Sustainability, Territorial Resources and Social Capital
2017
In Italy, in the last two decades, new methods of intervention in planning and land policies have been used, which focused more and more on territorial government, governance, development, cohesion and environmental sustainability. One of the main factors that has contributed to the dissatisfaction of the residents is the lack of quality in the towns, which has been more and more characterized by urban decay and by lack of services and gathering places. Giving back environmental, economic and social quality to degraded areas or recovering abandoned public spaces responds definitely to the concept of sustainable city limiting urban sprawl and reducing environmental impacts inherent in the bu…

Anatomy of Risk Premium in UK Natural Gas Futures
2015
In many futures markets, trading is concentrated in the front contract and positions are rolled-over until the strategy horizon is attained. In this paper, a pair-wise comparison between the conventional risk premium and the accrued risk premium in rolled-over positions in the front contract is carried out for UK natural gas futures. Several novel results are obtained. Firstly, and most importantly, the accrued risk premium in rollover strategies is significatively larger than conventional risk premiums and increases with the time to delivery. Specifically, for strategy horizons between three and six months, this difference increases from 1% to 10%. Secondly, it is the first time that risk …
Long term effect of teenage birth on earnings: Evidence from a British cohort study
2016
We use data from the 1970 British Cohort Study and evaluate the effect of teenage motherhood on hourly earnings at age 30, 34, 38, and 42 using alternative non-experimental estimation methods including linear regression, matching methods, and Heckman sample selection models. We conclude that teenage motherhood has a significant negative long-term effect on hourly wages. At age 42, teenage mothers earn 12% less than other women and 29% less than women who have not had any children. When compared to non-teenage mothers, the pay penalty reduces over time and becomes insignificant on the long term.
The economic impact of audit failures

This paper examines the economic consequences associated with an audit failure in the field of statutory auditing services, by analyzing changes in the audit firm’s market share around the time of the investigation process undertaken by the Spanish Public Oversight Board. We explore the variations in audit market share by applying the difference in differences method to a treatment group of 70 sanctioned audit firms and a matched control group of 70 non-sanctioned audit firms. The period of analysis covers the years from 1999 to 2015. Our results show that the sanctioned audit firms suffered a significant decrease in their relative number of clients. Moreover, this measure of market share d…

2016
This study conducted a large-scale survey to investigate the satisfaction of Finnish primary school teachers toward the current educational placement of their students with special educational needs (SEN). Teachers were asked to recommend the most suitable educational placement for each of their SEN students from a pool of six alternatives: a mainstream classroom, part-time special education, a special classroom in the mainstream school, a special school, a state special school, or an institution. Data were obtained from 980 students representing 68 schools. The results showed that, in the majority of cases, teachers recommended a different level to the current level of placement for their …
