Synthesis and characterization of Sn(IV) complexes of lower rim 1,3-diacid derivative of calix[4]arene and their protective effects on tissue oxidati…
2005
The two Sn(IV) complexes synthesized using calix[4]arene-1,3-di-acid derivative were characterized by analytical, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR, matrix assisted laser desorption ionization mass, and 119Sn Mossbauer techniques and found that the complexes are tetranuclear possessing structurally two different types of tin centers. These complexes were evaluated for their protective value against blood and tissue oxidative stress in lead exposed male albino rats of Wistar strain. The results suggest that the two tin complexes significantly protect changes in lead induced biochemical variables indicative of heme synthesis pathway and exhibit only moderate effect on tissue oxidative stress. The benefic…
Organotin(IV) complexes with epigenetic modulator ligands: New promising candidates in cancer therapy
2022
Organotin(IV) compounds have found their place among a class of non-platinum chemotherapeutic metallo-pharmaceuticals exhibiting good antitumor activity. The cytotoxicity induced by the different kinds of organotins has been related to several mechanism. In this review we report our last decade research activity concerning the synthesis and chemical characterization of new organotin(IV) derivatives containing epigenetic modulator ligand by using, FT-IR, Mössbauer spectroscopy, 119Sn{1H} cross polarization magic angle spinning, electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy, UV–Vis, 1H, 13C{1H} and 119Sn{1H} NMR spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. The first aim of the biologi…
Diorganotin(IV) and triorganotin(IV) complexes of meso-tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl) porphine induce apoptosis in A375 human melanoma cells
2006
The cytotoxic effect of several diorganotin(IV) and triorganotin(IV)-meso-tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine derivatives was tested and only the (Bu(2)Sn)(2)TPPS and the (Bu(3)Sn)(4)TPPS showed cytotoxicity on A375 human melanoma cells. To examine the pathway of (Bu(2)Sn)(2)TPPS or (Bu(3)Sn)(4)TPPS induced A375 cell death, DNA fragmentation analysis, Annexin V binding and PI uptake as well as caspases activation analysis by Western blot were carried out. A375 cells treated exhibited several typical characteristics of apoptosis. Both the (Bu(2)Sn)(2)TPPS and the (Bu(3)Sn)(4)TPPS compounds activate caspase-8 and caspase-9 leading to caspase-3 activation. Thus, we propose that these two porphiri…

DFT calculation of 1J(119Sn,13C) and 2J(119Sn,1H) coupling constants in di- and trimethyltin(IV) compounds
2008
We have tested several computational protocols, at the nonrelativistic DFT level of theory, for the calculation of 1J(119Sn, 13C) and 2J(119Sn, 1H) spin-spin coupling constants in di- and trimethyltin(IV) derivatives with various ligands. Quite a good agreement with experimental data has been found with several hybrid functionals and a double-zeta basis set for a set of molecules comprising tetra-, penta-, and hexa-coordinated tin(IV). Then, some of the protocols have been applied to the calculation of the 2J(119Sn, 1H) of the aquodimethyltin(IV) ion and dimethyltin(IV) complex with D-ribonic acid and to the calculation of 1J(119Sn, 13C) and 2J(119Sn, 1H) of the dimethyltin(IV)-glycylglycin…
Preparation and structural studies on dibutyltin(IV) complexes with pyridine mono- and dicarboxylic acids
2004
Abstract A number of organotin(IV) complexes with pyridine mono- and dicarboxylic acids (containing ligating –COOH group(s) and aromatic {N} atoms) were prepared in the solid state. The bonding sites of the ligands were determined by means of FT-IR spectroscopic measurements. It was found that in most cases the –COO− groups form bridges between two central {Sn} atoms, thereby leading to polymeric (oligomeric) complexes. On this basis, the experimental 119Sn Mossbauer spectroscopic data were treated with partial quadrupole splitting approximations. The calculations predicted the existence of complexes with octahedral (oh) and trigonal-bipyramidal (tbp) structures, but the formation of comple…
Semiempirical calculations on the interaction between dimethyltin(IV) and DNA model system
1999
Abstract The interaction between a dinucleotide triphosphate duplex (DD), mimicking the DNA molecule, and the dimethyltin(IV) cation is studied by the semiempirical PM3 method. The results show that the interaction can occur involving the tin atom and the electron-donor centres of DD, requiring in some cases the presence of water molecules. In particular, the binding of the dimethyltin(IV) moiety with two adjacent phosphate oxygen atoms is allowed by the presence of water molecules coordinating to the tin atom. In this case the tin environment shows a geometry in agreement with 119 Sn Mossbauer and X-ray data.
Karplus-Type Dependence of Vicinal119Sn-13C and119Sn-1H Spin-Spin Couplings in Organotin(IV) Derivatives: A DFT Study
2009
The empirical Karplus-type dependence of (3)J((119)Sn,(13)C) and (3)J((119)Sn,(1)H) couplings in organotin(IV) derivatives has been computationally validated by DFT methods both at the nonrelativistic and scalar ZORA relativistic level. A preliminary calibration of the computational protocols, by comparing experimental and calculated couplings for a Set Of Suitable rigid molecules, revealed their high predictive power: in particular, relativistic results for (3)J((119)Sn,(13)C) have a mean absolute error of just above 2 Hz, over a range of values up to about 70 Hz. The latter protocol has then been used to study in detail the influence of substituents and multiple paths connecting the coupl…
Relativistic DFT Calculation of (119)Sn Chemical Shifts and Coupling Constants in Tin Compounds.
2006
The nuclear shielding and spin-spin coupling constants of (119)Sn in stannane, tetramethylstannane, methyltin halides Me4-nSnXn (X = Cl, Br, I; n = 1-3), tin halides, and some stannyl cations have been investigated computationally by DFT methods and Slater all-electron basis sets, including relativistic effects by means of the zeroth order regular approximation (ZORA) method up to spin-orbit coupling. Calculated (119)Sn chemical shifts generally correlate well with experimental values, except when several heavy halogen atoms, especially iodine, are bound to tin. In such cases, calculated chemical shifts are almost constant at the scalar (spin-free) ZORA level; only at the spin-orbit level i…
