Burnout, work engagement and workaholism among highly educated employees: Profiles, antecedents and outcomes

2014

The present study examined the longitudinal profiles of burnout, engagement and workaholism among highly educated employees. First, the latent profile modeling indicated two latent classes: Engaged and Exhausted-Workaholic. Second, the results revealed that employees with the Engaged profile experienced high levels of energy and dedication, whereas employees with the Exhausted-Workaholic profile experienced exhaustion, cynicism and workaholism. Social pessimism in the transition from high education to work predicted poor subjective well-being at work. Further, workaholism decreased during the career among members of the Exhausted-Workaholic profile suggesting positive direction during caree…

Orienteering : a journey from the deep forest to the Finns' living rooms, an overview of the orienteering as a sport from 2000 to 2015 in Finland

2017

Orienteering is a sport which has its roots in the early 20th century. Academic research of the development of orienteering has mostly concentrated on the decades of the 20th century. Recently there has not been conducted a thorough research of the evolvement of the Finnish orienteering, even though the both orienteering and the Finnish sport and physical culture, have faced new challenges and changes in the form of technological developments and transformation of the society. The purpose of this research was to determine and describe the possible changes in the Finnish orienteering during 2000-2015. Furthermore, the factors behind these possible changes were illustrated. The data was colle…

A Novel Bio-Inspired Approach for High-Performance Management in Service-Oriented Networks

2021

Service-continuity in distributed computing can be enhanced by designing self-organized systems, with a non-fixed structure, able to modify their structure and organization, as well as adaptively react to internal and external environment changes. In this paper, an architecture exploiting a bio-inspired management approach, i.e., the functioning of cell metabolism, for specialized computing environments in Service-Oriented Networks (SONs) is proposed. Similar to the processes acting in metabolic networks, the nodes communicate to each other by means of stimulation or suppression chains giving rise to emergent behaviors to defend against foreign invaders, attacks, and malfunctioning. The mai…

Acculturation Profiles and Perceived Discrimination: Associations with Psychosocial Well-being Among Tunisian Adolescents in Italy

2015

Research usually analyzed the relationships between acculturation or perceived discrimination and immigrants’ well-being, but few studies used an integrative perspective. Framed from a person-oriented approach, the current paper tried to advance the literature examining how acculturation profiles and perceived (group and personal) discrimination were associated with psychosocial well-being in a sample of 348 Tunisian adolescents (females = 48.28%; mean age = 15.72) living in southern Italy. Cluster analytic methods on the scores of acculturation strategies, ethnic and national identities, ethnic and national languages, ethnic and national peer social contacts produced three acculturation pr…

Desarrollo de las competencias básicas de los estudiantes de educación superior mediante la e-Evaluación orientada al aprendizaje

2013

Learning Oriented e-Assessment (e-LOA) is an ICT mediated learning process. It promotes the development of competences that are relevant to both students’ academic present and professional future. In this quasi-experimental research a pretest-posttest design with experimental and control groups is implemented. We believe that the actions of e-LOA favors further development of competences. The results show that in the experimental groups there is an improvement on the level of competence. Significant differences have been found between the pretest and posttest. In addition, there is a consistency between the competences that have improved and those considered in the literature (creativity, p…

"Bad romance": Links between psychological and physical aggression and relationship functioning in adolescent couples

2015

Contains fulltext : 150442.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) Assortative mating is an important issue in explaining antisocial, aggressive behavior. It is yet unclear, whether the similarity paradigm fully explains frequent displays of aggression in adolescents' romantic relationships. In a sample of 194 romantic partner dyads, differences between female and male partners' reports of aggression (psychological and physical) and different measures of relationship functioning (e.g., jealousy, conflicts, and the affiliative and romantic quality of the relationship) were assessed. A hierarchical cluster analysis identified five distinct subgroups of dyads based on male and female reports …

The Role of General and Selective Task Instructions on Students’ Processing of Multiple Conflicting Documents

2019

This study was designed to test the role of general and selective task instructions when processing documents, which vary as regards trustworthiness and position toward a conflicting topic. With selective task instructions, we refer to concrete guidelines as how to read the texts and how to select appropriate documents and contents, in contrast to general task instructions. Sixty-one secondary school students were presented with four different conflicting documents in an electronic learning environment and were told to write an essay based on the information from the texts. Only half of the students were told to only use information from two out of the four texts to write their essay (i.e.,…

Classification of Schizophrenia Patients and Healthy Controls Using ICA of Complex-Valued fMRI Data and Convolutional Neural Networks

2019

Deep learning has contributed greatly to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) analysis, however, spatial maps derived from fMRI data by independent component analysis (ICA), as promising biomarkers, have rarely been directly used to perform individualized diagnosis. As such, this study proposes a novel framework combining ICA and convolutional neural network (CNN) for classifying schizophrenia patients (SZs) and healthy controls (HCs). ICA is first used to obtain components of interest which have been previously implicated in schizophrenia. Functionally informative slices of these components are then selected and labelled. CNN is finally employed to learn hierarchical diagnostic fea…
