The vegetation for mitigating the microclimate and designing livable and healthy public spaces in Palermo City Centre
2018
Urban morphology and increasing building density play a key role in the overall heat and energy balance of our cities. The urban environment and CO2 emissions resulting from human activities cause a local increase of temperature, a phenomenon known as Urban Heat Island (UHI). This is also due to the reduction of vegetation in urban areas. The benefits that green spaces have in urban planning have been widely acknowledged. In particular, in temperate and hot contexts, plants help to reduce the extreme summer temperatures, improving people’s outdoor and indoor thermal comfort and, at the same time, reducing the buildings’ energy demand for cooling. The way plants affect urban climates is gene…
Profiles and seasonal distribution of airborne fungi in indoor and outdoor environments at a French hospital
2009
International audience; A one-year prospective survey of fungal air contamination was conducted in outdoor air and inside two haematological units of a French hospital. Air was sampled with a portable Air System Impactor. During this period of survey, the mean viable fungal load was 122.1 cfu/m(3) in outdoor air samples, and 4.1 and 3.9 cfu/m(3) in samples from adult and pediatric haematology units, respectively. In outdoor samples, Cladosporium was the dominant genus (55%) while in the clinical units, Penicillium sp. (23 to 25%), Aspergillus sp. (15 to 23%) and Bjerkandera adusta (11 to 13%) were the most frequently recovered airborne fungi. The outdoor fungal load was far higher in autumn…
Methodological Considerations for Movement Education Interventions in Natural Environments for Primary School Children: A Scoping Review.
2022
Background: Education is the ideal setting for carrying out projects to improve primary students’ capacities. In recent years, interventions in natural environments have been more frequently proposed, but there is still a lack of standardization, making deeper study of the topic necessary. This review aims to report on what previous scientific research has been carried out, and eventually, to propose standard operating procedures for future interventions. Methods: This is a scoping review that adopted the PRISMA guidelines. Primary school children have been included, and the interventions had to be proposed adopting nature as the primary element of the learning process. Results: A total of …
Does Learning Through Movement Improve Academic Performance in Primary Schoolchildren? A Systematic Review
2022
Physically active children have greater motor competence and a faster maturation compared with their sedentary peers. Recent research also suggests that physical activity during childhood may also promote cognitive development and therefore improve academic performance. The aim of this study was to understand if physically active academic lessons may improve academic achievement in primary schoolchildren. A systematic review following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines was conducted. The search was performed on the following database: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), and PsycINFO (APA). Stu…

5-6 gadīgu bērnu pozitīvas attieksmes pret dabu veidošanās brīvdabas pedagoğijā
2020
Bakalaura darba autore: Sintija Kainere Bakalaura darba temats - 5-6 gadīgu bērnu pozitīvas attieksmes pret dabu veidošanās brīvdabas pedagoģijā. Tā kā arvien vairāk bērnu astvešinās no dabas, jo netiek veidotas saikne ar dabu, bakalaura darbā tiek aplūkotas iespējas tuvināt bērnus dabai, veidojot pozitīvu attieksmi pret dabu. Bakalaura darba mērķis - teorētiski un praktiski izpētīt 5-6 gadīgu bērnu pozitīvas attieksmes pret dabu veidošanos brīvdabas pedagoģijā. Teorētiskajā daļā autore izzina un pēta dažādu autoru pedagoģiskās un psiholoģiskās atziņas, tiek dots vispārīgs attieksmes raksturojums, izzināta 5-6 gadīgu bērnu attieksmes veidošanās un aplūkota brīvdabas pedagoģija kā pozitīvas …

Kvalifikācijas darba tēma “ bērnu radošuma attīstīšana brīvdabas pedagoģijā vidējā pirmsskolas vecumā”. Darba autore Laila Kauliņa. Darba vadītāja Dr.psych. Tija Zīriņa. Kvalifikācijas darba mērķis: teorētiski un praktiski pētīt bērnu radošuma attīstīšanu brīvdabas pedagoģijā vidējā pirmsskolas vecuma bērniem. Kvalifikācijas darbs sastāv no divām daļām, 6 apakšnodaļām, 16 attēliem, 4 tabulām, 29 literatūras un citu avotu saraksta, 1 pielikuma un kopējais darba apjoms 40 lappuses. Teorētiskajā daļā darba autore analizē pedagoģijas un psiholoģijas zinātnieku atziņas par bērnu radošuma attīstīšanas iespējām, tā attīstību un ietekmējošiem faktoriem brīvdabas pedagoģijā vidējā pirmsskolas vecumā…

Building natural science learning through youth science camps
2018
This study focuses on a youth science camp for pupils in sixth to ninth grades that is organized annually by the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. The main idea of the science camp is to learn to do guided inquiry in nature. The study investigates the significance of science camp for encouraging young participants to learn science and how the camp supports their learning. The research method used was a survey. Altogether, 47 youth participated in the camp in 2012 and 2013. The results show that the participants wanted to learn more about science than secondary school could offer, and science camp had a positive impact on their interest in science. It was possible to introduce important conc…
