Value co-creation among hotels and disabled customers: An exploratory study
2014
This study examines how service supplier and buyer value co-creation influences buyers' attitudes toward service providers. Service-dominant logic is a prevalent concept in the services industry, providing an important marketing theory in which intangible resources, co-creation of value, and relationships are the keys to determining marketing exchanges. This research describes a model for analyzing value co-creation management in the hotel industry, focusing on the specific market segment of disabled customers. This framework helps foster value co-creation to increase the benefits for participants during each stage of their relationship. The paper also presents the managerial implications o…
Competitive Group Analysis of Public Transport Services
2007
Abstract The aim of the present paper was to evaluate five passenger transport service providers (EMT urban buses, METROBUS metropolitan area buses, RENFE local trains, METRO underground trains and trams, TAXI) in a tourism-receiving metropolitan statistical area of Spain. User perceptions of the public transport services were obtained and the results indicate that public transport is making great efforts to adapt to user preferences. Despite the general level of satisfaction with public transport, however, not all the brands are equally interested in differentiation. The brands with less well-defined positioning, perceived as less closely associated with the different attributes examined (…
Best compromise solution for a new multiobjective scheduling problem
2006
In future wireless networks, a mobile terminal will be able to communicate with a service provider using several network connections. These connections to networks will have different properties and they will be priced separately. In order to minimize the total communication time and the total transmission costs, an automatic method for selecting the network connections is needed. Here, we describe the network connection selection problem and formulate it mathematically. We discuss solving the problem and analyse different multiobjective optimization approaches for it.
Revenue-based adaptive deficit round robin
2005
This paper presents an adaptive resource allocation model that is based on the DRR queuing policy. The model ensures QoS requirements and tries to maximize a service provider's revenue by manipulating quantum values of the DRR scheduler. To calculate quantum values, it is proposed to use the revenue criterion that controls the allocation of free resources. The simulation considers a single node with the implemented model that serves several service classes with different QoS requirements and traffic characteristics. It is shown that the total revenue can be increased due to the allocation of unused resources to more expensive service classes. At the same time, bandwidth and delay guarantees…
Impact of physicians’ participation in non-interventional post-marketing studies on their prescription habits: A retrospective 2-armed cohort study i…
2020
Background Non-interventional post-marketing studies (NIPMSs) sponsored by pharmaceutical companies are controversial because, while they are theoretically useful instruments for pharmacovigilance, some authors have hypothesized that they are merely marketing instruments used to influence physicians’ prescription behavior. So far, it has not been shown, to our knowledge, whether NIPMSs actually do have an influence on prescription behavior. The objective of this study was therefore to investigate whether physicians’ participation in NIPMSs initiated by pharmaceutical companies has an impact on their prescription behavior. In addition, we wanted to analyze whether specific characteristics of…
Anxiety and the severity of Tension-Type Headache mediate the relation between headache presenteeism and workers’ productivity
2018
The primary objective of this study was to explore the mechanisms and conditions whereby Tension-Type Headache (TTH) presenteeism relates to health-related loss of productivity as a result of both reduced physical and mental health. To this end, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to conduct a secondary data analysis of a randomized clinical trial involving 78 Tension-type Headache (TTH) patients. The results showed that TTH presenteeism did not directly relate to health-related loss of productivity, either due to physical, or mental health problems. However, through anxiety-state, TTH presenteeism decreased patients' productivity, as consequence of reduced physical and mental healt…
A Patient Registry to Improve Patient Safety: Recording General Neurosurgery Complications
2016
Background To improve the transparency of the local health care system, treatment cost was recently referenced to disease related groups. Treatment quality must be legally documented in a patient registry, in particular for the highly specialized treatments provided by neurosurgery departments. Methods In 2013 we have installed a patient registry focused on cranial neurosurgery. Surgeries are characterized by indication, treatment, location and other specific neurosurgical parameters. Preoperative state and postoperative outcome are recorded prospectively using neurological and sociological scales. Complications are graded by their severity in a therapy-oriented complication score system (C…
Analysis of the conflicts of interest disclosed by the program reviewers of the scoliosis research society (SRS) congresses, 2010-2014.
2018
Background Conflicts of interest (COI) between industry and surgeons frequently introduce biases into surgical research. The abstracts submitted for presentation in scientific congresses are usually vetted for any indication of commercial bias. Members of review program committees regularly have recognized qualifications, and therefore certain COI are unavoidable. This study aims to determine the prevalence and magnitude of possible COI among those responsible for the selection of presentations at two important international conferences on spine surgery during a five-year period. Methodology COI declarations by those responsible for the final programs of the annual SRS (Scoliosis Research S…
Willingness to pay for a cure of low-risk melanoma patients in Germany
2018
Malignant melanoma is potentially life-threatening but in most cases curable if detected early. Willingness to pay (WTP) is a preference-based construct that reflects burden of disease by assessment of the monetary value for a hypothetical cure from disease. Since WTP (directly as total amount of money) has not been assessed so far in patients with low risk melanoma, it was interesting to gain insights in this patient population and then, in a second step, compare it directly with the WTP of their treating dermato-oncologists. WTP was assessed in 125 patients with low-risk melanoma and additionally in 105 treating physicians, asking for the one-time and continuous payments they would be wil…
Product and service bundling decisions and their effects on purchase intention
1997
Examines the effects of four factors (the bundle: pure or mixed, the price discount, the functional complementarity of bundle components, and the number of bundle components) on consumers’ intentions to purchase product and service bundles. The findings were relatively consistent across product (automobile) and service (automotive service) contexts, and illustrate that pure bundles are preferred to mixed bundles, and a greater price discount is preferred to a lesser one. The results also indicate that five component bundles generate greater purchase intention than either three or seven component bundles, and that “very related” bundle components result in greater purchase intention than eit…
