DNP in MRI: an in-bore approach at 1.5 T.

Abstract We have used liquid state (“Overhauser”) Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) to significantly enhance the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). For the first time this was achieved by hyperpolarizing directly in the MRI-scanner field of 1.5 T in continuous flow mode and immediately delivering the hyperpolarized substance to the imaging site to ensure maximum contrast between hyperpolarized sample and sample at thermal polarization. We achieve a maximum absolute signal enhancement factor of 98; while the hyperpolarized sample is transported at a flow rate of up to 30 ml/h yielding an average flow speed up to 470 mm/s over a distance of approximately 80 mm. …

Coating and functionalization of high density ion track structures by atomic layer deposition

In this study flexible TiO 2 coated porous Kapton membranes are presented having electron multiplication properties. 800 nm crossing pores were fabricated into 50  m thick Kapton membranes using ion track technology and chemical etching. Consecutively, 50 nm TiO 2 films were deposited i nto the pores of the Kapton membranes by atomic layer deposition using Ti( i OPr) 4 and water as precursors at 250 °C. The TiO 2 films and coated membranes were studied by scanning electro n microscopy (SEM), X - ray diffraction (XRD) and X - ray reflectometry (XRR). Light absorption and conversion in solar cell based on Si:O alloy

Thin film Si:O alloys have been grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, as intrinsic or highly doped (1 to 5 at. % of B or P dopant) layers. UV-visible/near-infrared spectroscopy revealed a great dependence of the absorption coefficient and of the optical gap (Eg) on the dopant type and concentration, as Eg decreases from 2.1 to 1.9 eV, for the intrinsic or highly p-doped sample, respectively. Thermal annealing up to 400 °C induces a huge H out-diffusion which causes a dramatic absorption increase and a reduction of Eg, down to less than 1.8 eV. Soft proton exchanged channel waveguides in congruent lithium tantalate for frequency doubling

We report on stable optical waveguides fabricated by soft-proton exchange in periodically-poled congruent lithium tantalate in the a-phase. The channel waveguides are characterized in the telecom wavelength range in terms of both linear properties and frequency doubling. The measurements yield a nonlinear coefficient of about 9.5pm/V, demonstrating that the nonlinear optical properties of lithium tantalate are left nearly unaltered by the process. Electrical and photovoltaic properties of indium‐tin‐oxide/p‐InSe/Au solar cells

Conditions for efficiency improvement and optimization in indium‐tin‐oxide/p‐indium‐selenide solar cells are discussed in this paper. This aim is achieved by using low‐resistivity p‐indium‐selenide and by incorporating a back‐surface‐field contact. This contact is insured by a p‐indium selenide/gold barrier whose rectifying behavior is explained through the complex impurity structure of p‐indium‐selenide. Electrical and photovoltaic properties of the cells are also reported. The efficiency parameters under AM1 simulated conditions have been improved up to 32 mA/cm2 for the short‐circuit current density, 0.58 V for the open‐circuit voltage, and 0.63 for the filling factor. Magneli-type tungsten oxide nanorods as catalysts for the selective oxidation of organic sulfides

Selective oxidation of thioethers is an important reaction to obtain sulfoxides as synthetic intermediates for applications in the chemical industry, medicinal chemistry and biology or the destruction of warfare agents. The reduced Magneli-type tungsten oxide WO3−x possesses a unique oxidase-like activity which facilitates the oxidation of thioethers to the corresponding sulfoxides. More than 90% of the model system methylphenylsulfide could be converted to the sulfoxide with a selectivity of 98% at room temperature within 30 minutes, whereas oxidation to the corresponding sulfone was on a time scale of days. Pro-oxidant effects of 7-hydroperoxycholest-5-en-3β-ol on the copper-initiated oxidation of low density lipoprotein

AbstractIn low density lipoproteins (LDL) supplemented with aged cholesterol and oxidized in the presence of Cu2+, an increase of the lipid oxidation parameters was observed compared with pure cholesterol-enriched LDL. A compound, identified as 7-hydroperoxycholesterol (7HPC), isolated from aged cholesterol and added to LDL, reproduced the above effects. The results indicate that the pro-oxidant effect of 7HPC is dependent on the hydroperoxy group since the corresponding alcohol derivative, 7α-hydroxycholesterol, had no such effect. The main objective of this thesis is to propose an analysis of the microwave transduction specificities in the framework of ammonia sensing applications. The two main features of this transduction are its broadband characterization (1 to 8 GHz) as well as its sensitive materials (dielectrics). This transduction method is based on the interaction between a polluting gas and a sensitive material deposited on the surface of a microwave-specific propagating structure. The response of the sensor is not directly induced by the dielectric properties of the gaseous target molecule, but rather by those of the target species adsorbed on the surface of the sensitive material.
