Photochemically induced cross-links between DNA and alcohol dehydrogenase or salmine, respectively

Model experiments with two structurally different proteins (alcohol dehydrogenase and salmine) show that glycine, alanine, and tyrosine are by far more frequently involved in photochemically induced cross-link formations with DNA than is cysteine. The yields for cross-link formation of thymidine with salmine (cysteine-free) are about as high as those with alcohol dehydrogenase (a thiol protein).
Novel cationic copolymers of a polyasparthylhydrazide: synthesis and characterization.

Alpha,beta-poly(asparthylhydrazide) (PAHy), a water soluble synthetic polymer, was functionalized by using EDCI chemistry with 3-(carboxypropyl)trimethyl-ammonium chloride (CPTACl) obtaining carboxypropyltrimethyl ammonium copolymers (PAHy-CPTA). Three PAHy-CPTA copolymers at increasing derivatization degrees (38%, 48%, 58%) were chosen for subsequent investigations. The capability of these copolymers to bind, neutralize, and protect DNA against degradation by DNase II was evalued by gel retardation assay and DNA degradation test at pH 5.5. The pleiotropic cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) interacts with the specific ligand binding subunit (IL-6R alpha) of the IL-6 receptor, and this complex associates with the signal-transducing subunit gp130 (IL-6R beta). Human IL-6 acts on human and murine cells, whereas murine IL-6 is only active on murine cells. The construction of a set of chimeric human/murine IL-6 proteins has recently allowed us to define a region (residues 43-55) within the human IL-6 protein, which is important for the interaction with gp130. Patients suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF) often need to inhale multiple doses of different nebulizable drugs per day. Patients attempt to shorten the time consuming administration procedure by mixing drug solutions/suspensions for simultaneous inhalation. The objective of this experimental study was to determine whether mixtures of the nebulizer solution dornase alfa (Pulmozyme) with tobramycin nebulizer solutions (TOBI and GERNEBCIN 80 mg) are physico-chemically compatible. The objective of this in-vitro study was to determine whether admixtures of the inhalation solutions Pulmozyme(®) (Dornase alfa) and either Bramitob(®) or Tobi(®) (both containing Tobramycin) are physicochemically compatible and to analyze the aerodynamic parameters of these admixtures. A nucleoside phosphotransferase purified about 40fold from chick embryos utilizes efficiently as phosphate donors deoxyribonucleoside and pyrimidine ribonucleoside monophosphates, whereas the pyrimidine deoxyribonucleoside appear to be the preferred acceptors of phosphate. The enzyme is very unstable to heat, dilution and dialysis. A marked enhancement in the stability is caused by nucleotides and it seems associated with the formation of an aggregated state of the protein.

Abstract Mixed divalent Cu, Co, Ni and Zn complexes containing the new sulfonamide ligand N–(2–(pyridin–2–yl)ethyl)quinoline–8–sulfonamide (HQSEP) were prepared and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. The tetracoordinate [Cu(QSEP)X] [X = Br (1), Cl (2)] compounds present a seesaw geometry (τ4 = 0.56 (1) and 0.50 (2)). The Cu(II) in the [Cu(QSEP)(NO3)(MeOH)] (3) complex is five coordinate with a slightly distorted SP geometry (τ = 0.11). The [M(QSEP)(benz)] [M = Cu(II) (4), Ni(II) (5), Co(II) (6) and Zn(II) (7); benz = benzoate] compounds are configurationally isotypic. Human papillomavirus type 33 (HPV33) is associated with malignant tumors of the cervix. In an attempt to develop immunological probes for HPV33 infections, antisera against various bacterial fusion proteins carrying sequences of the minor capsid protein encoded by L2 were raised in animals. Antigenic determinants on the HPV33 L2 protein were identified by using truncated fusion proteins and were classified as type specific or cross-reactive with respect to HPV1, -8, -11, -16, and -18. Cross-reactive epitopes map to amino acids 98 to 107 or to amino acids 102 to 112 and 107 to 117, respectively, depending on the fusion protein used for immunization.
