This paper frames the potential benefits of ‘lean’ and dynamic performance management (PM) systems for small and micro enterprises. In this context, the ‘lean’ attribute is used to characterize a different approach in applying PM to small firms, in respect to larger organizations. The malignant carcinomas are characterized by several capabilities acquired by the neoplastic cells, among which the ability to invade the extracellular matrix (ECM) and to establish a crosstalk with several ECM components. Building collective capabilities through ICT in a mountain region of Nepal: where social capital leads to collective action

In this paper, we explore how ICT can lead to development specifically human development in Sen's capability approach. In answering to the critique that Sen views capabilities as the individual, we incorporate the societal level by adding collective capabilities. We propose that ICT helps to create or enhance SC of communities which in turn can lead to development by building collective capabilities through collective action. To illustrate, we conducted a qualitative case study of an ICT initiative in a remote mountain region of Nepal. POSS-tetraalkylammonium salts: A new class of ionic liquids

A series of new polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane ionic liquids (POSS-ILs) based on the trimethylpropylammonium dielectric constants, which, conversely, display slight differences originating from the nature of the anions. The long alkyl-chain substituents on the POSS core infer on this series of ILs an overall hydrophobic character and solution properties comparable to those of classic cationic surfactants, resulting in an effective extractant capability of polyanions from aqueous solutions. International audience; Cette intervention présente des premiers résultats d'une thèse CIFRE à la Ville de Paris et au laboratoire IREDU sur le rôle des grandes métropoles dans la lutte contre la précarité étudiante. Elle reviendra sur l'apport des capabilités et d'une approche mixte pour appréhender l'action publique locale parisienne. Une évaluation d'un dispositif d'aide au logement et de la coordination locale a été menée afin de déceler les écarts entre le public initialement visé et le public réellement atteint. L'approche innovante des capabilités permet ainsi d'aller au-delà des libertés formelles pour mieux orienter les politiques de vie étudiante.

SummaryThere is evidence that low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is modified by hydrolytic enzymes,and that the product (E-LDL) induces selective production of interleukin 8 (IL-8) in endothelial cells. Since nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) is a major regulator of IL-8 transcription, we studied its activation in endothelial cells treated with E-LDL. Unexpectedly,the modified lipoprotein not only failed to activate NF-κB, but completely blocked its activation by tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in EA.hy926-cells, as assessed by electrophoretic mobility shift assays and immunofluorescence. Abstract The resolution of samples containing unknown compounds of different nature, or without standards available, as is the case of chromatographic fingerprints, is still a challenge. Possibly, the most problematic aspect that prevents systematic method development is finding models that describe without bias the retention behaviour of the compounds in the samples. The Importance of Internal Resources and Capabilities and Destination Resources to Explain Firm Competitive Position in the Spanish Tourism Industry

This study draws on the Resource-Based View to analyze the effects of distinctive competences in tourism firms and location in a tourism district on competitive position, and explores the moderating effects of the tourism destination. Multiple linear regression was used to test the research hypotheses on a sample of 1019 Spanish tourism firms. Results reveal that financial resources and dynamic and production capabilities favor a better competitive position for tourism firms in general; however, coordination and marketing capabilities are key factors for firms embedded in a tourism district, while dynamic capabilities have a negative effect in this case.
