Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism Array-Based Karyotyping of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is characterized by the t(15;17)(q22;q21), but additional chromosomal abnormalities (ACA) and other rearrangements can contribute in the development of the whole leukemic phenotype. We hypothesized that some ACA not detected by conventional techniques may be informative of the onset of APL. We performed the high-resolution SNP array (SNP-A) 6.0 (Affymetrix) in 48 patients diagnosed with APL on matched diagnosis and remission sample. Familial hemiplegic migraine type 2 is linked to 0.9Mb region on chromosome 1q23

Familial hemiplegic migraine (FHM) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by episodes of transient hemiparesis followed by headache. Two chromosomal loci are associated to FHM: FHM1 on chromosome 19 and FHM2 on chromosome 1q21-23. Mutations of the alpha-1A subunit of the voltage gated calcium channel (CACNA1A) are responsible for FHM1. FHM2 critical region spans 28 cM, hence hampering the identification of the responsible gene. Combining fluvoxamine and clozapine may be a strategy to improve therapeutic effects on negative symptoms in schizophrenic patients. Fluvoxamine, however, markedly inhibits the metabolism of clozapine, and hazardous side effects may result. This study prospectively investigated the safety and tolerability of an add-on therapy with fluvoxamine to a clozapine monotherapy in schizophrenic patients. Phonological-Lexical Feedback during Early Abstract Encoding: The Case of Deaf Readers.

In the masked priming technique, physical identity between prime and target enjoys an advantage over nominal identity in nonwords (GEDA-GEDA faster than geda-GEDA). However, nominal identity overrides physical identity in words (e.g., REAL-REAL similar to real-REAL). Here we tested whether the lack of an advantage of the physical identity condition for words was due to top-down feedback from phonological-lexical information. We examined this issue with deaf readers, as their phonological representations are not as fully developed as in hearing readers. Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism Array-Based Characterization of Ring Chromosome 18

Objective To study genotype–phenotype correlation of ring chromosome 18 [r(18)] in 9 patients with 46,XN karyotype. Study design In 9 patients with a de novo 46,XN,r(18) karyotype (7 females, 2 males), we performed high-resolution single-nucleotide polymorphism array analysis (Illumina Human Omni1-QuadV1 array in 6 patients, Affymetrix 6.0 array in 3 patients), investigation of parental origin, and genotype–phenotype correlation. Results No breakpoint was recurrent. Incomplete penetrance and phenotypic variability of 6q16 deletions including SIM1.

International audience; 6q16 deletions have been described in patients with a Prader-Willi-like (PWS-like) phenotype. Recent studies have shown that certain rare single-minded 1 (SIM1) loss-of-function variants were associated with a high intra-familial risk for obesity with or without features of PWS-like syndrome. Maximal and explosive force production capacity and balance performance in men of different ages

A group of 32 healthy men (M) divided into three different age groups, i.e. M20 years [mean 21 (SD 1); n = 12], M40 [mean 40 (SD 2); n = 10] and M70 [mean 71 (SD 5); n = 10] volunteered as subjects for examination of maximal and explosive force production of leg extensor muscles in both isometric and dynamic actions (squat jump, SJ and counter movement jump, CMJ, and standing long-jump, SLJ).
