Three-dimensional architecture of the whole human soleus muscle in vivo

Background Most data on the architecture of the human soleus muscle have been obtained from cadaveric dissection or two-dimensional ultrasound imaging. We present the first comprehensive, quantitative study on the three-dimensional anatomy of the human soleus muscle in vivo using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) techniques. Particle surface engineering effect on the mechanical, optical and photoluminescent properties of ZnO/vinyl-ester resin nanocomposites

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles functionalized with a bi-functional coupling agent methacryloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (MPS) were used to fabricate a vinyl-ester resin polymeric nanocomposite, which shows an improved interfacial interaction between the particle and matrix. As a result, in comparison to the unmodified particle-filled nanocomposites, the functionalized particle-filled composites possessed higher resistance to thermal degradation, and demonstrated improved UV shielding and enhanced photoluminescent properties. Abstract Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission of NASA was launched in January 2015. Currently, SMAP has an L-band radiometer and a defunct L-band radar with a rotating 6-m mesh reflector antenna. On July 7th, 2015, the SMAP radar malfunctioned and became inoperable. Consequently, the production of high-resolution active-passive soil moisture product got hampered, and only ~2.5 months (April 15th, 2015 to July 7th, 2015) of data remain available. Abstract The NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission was launched on January 31st, 2015. The spacecraft was to provide high-resolution (3 km and 9 km) global soil moisture estimates at regular intervals by combining for the first time L-band radiometer and radar observations. On July 7th, 2015, a component of the SMAP radar failed and the radar ceased operation. Mammalian nest predator feces as a cue in avian habitat selection decisions

Breeding habitat selection is expected to be adaptive. Animals should respond to strong agents of natural selection, such as expected offspring mortality due to nest predators, in their settlement decisions. In birds, mammalian nest predators are a significant mortality source and birds are known to respond to their presence. However, the mechanism used by birds to perceive mammalian nest predators and estimate the nest predation risk remains unknown, in particular at larger spatial scales while comparing potential breeding habitat patches. PERMANENT INCOME, CONVERGENCE AND INEQUALITY AMONG COUNTRIES

The literature on inequality has generally focused on the analysis of annual per capita income. This paper adopts a different approach by considering the life-cycle dimension of inequality and convergence between economies from 1960 to 2000. We analyze the present value of the set of incomes individuals obtain throughout their whole life (permanent income). On the basis of this approach, various simulations are made to determine the effect on inequality in permanent income of variables such as survival rates and the long-run growth rates in current income. Quartz Crystal Microbalance And Electrical Impedance Characterization Of Nickel Dissolution Process.

Abstract. The anodic nickel dissolution in acid media is analysed by means of EQCM and EIS techniques. The experimental impedance spectra have been fitted to the equivalent circuit which corresponds to two consecutive electron transfers followed by a Ni(II) desorption. That way rate constants and surface concentrations of the Ni(0) and Ni(I) species are obtained. EQCM also provides information about the mechanism of deposition and passivation of nickel as well as the hydrogen evolution.
