FRAM (F/Photometric Robotic Atmospheric Monitor) is a robotic telescope operated at the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina for the purposes of atmospheric monitoring using stellar photometry. As a passive system which does not produce any light that could interfere with the observations of the fluorescence telescopes of the observatory, it complements the active monitoring systems that use lasers. We discuss the applications of stellar photometry for atmospheric monitoring at optical observatories in general and the particular modes of operation employed by the Auger FRAM. Pētījuma mērķis bija izpētīt, vai dzemdību veids – ķeizargrieziens vai dzemdības pa dabīgiem ceļiem, ietekmē mātes pēcdzemdību psiho-emocionālo status un mātes-bērna saiknes izveidošanos. Mātes emocionālais stāvoklis tika novērtēts ar tā saucamo Edinburgas Pēcdzemdību Depresijas Skalu (EPDS). Skala tika iekļauta pētījumā izmantotā anketā, kuru aizpildīja pētījuma dalībnieces. Ar EPDS nosaka mātes risku uz pēcdzemdību depresijas attīstību, kur iegūto punktu skaitu interpretē sekojoši: 0-9 punkti nozīmē zemu, 9-13 vidējo un >13 punktiem augstu risku uz pēcdzemdību depresijas attīstību. Indoor artificial lighting: Prediction of the circadian effects of different spectral power distributions.

The study presented in this paper aims to evaluate if and how the environment affects the circadian impact of a light source by predicting circadian stimulus (CS) resulting from the exposure to different light scenes, using equations reported in studies by Rea et al. The main findings are: (1) Above 600 lx at eye level the increase of CS is little; (2) Between 50 lx and 200 lx at the eye level an increase of only 50 lx determines a significant increase of CS; (3) Light sources with correlated colour temperatures between 2900 K and 4200 K have similar impacts on the circadian system according to the calculation method used; (4) Even an almost neutral environment affects the circadian impact…
Prevalence of fatigue in Parkinson disease and its clinical correlates

Objective: To assess in a noninterventional setting the prevalence and severity of fatigue in patients with Parkinson disease (PD). Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Italian patients with PD. Objectives included the evaluation of the current prevalence and severity of fatigue in patients with PD measured using the 16-item Parkinson Fatigue Scale (PFS-16), distressing fatigue (defined as a PFS-16 mean score $3.3), and assessment of its clinical correlates. Large-area PhotoMultiplier Tubes (PMT) allow to efficiently instrument Liquid Scintillator (LS) neutrino detectors, where large target masses are pivotal to compensate for neutrinos' extremely elusive nature. Depending on the detector light yield, several scintillation photons stemming from the same neutrino interaction are likely to hit a single PMT in a few tens/hundreds of nanoseconds, resulting in several photoelectrons (PEs) to pile-up at the PMT anode. In such scenario, the signal generated by each PE is entangled to the others, and an accurate PMT charge reconstruction becomes challenging. A laser-based system for a fast and accurate measurement of gain and linearity of photomultipliers

This paper describes a method for the measurement of gain and linearity of photomultipliers (PMTs). Gain and linearity are two fundamental parameters to use properly a PMT in several physics experiments. In the developed system light is laser generated and adressed to the PMT through a set of optical fibers. The data acquisition system consists in a commercial 16 channel digitizer coupled to a custom front-end board. With the chosen digitizer the system is scalable to test up to 16 PMTs, with the aid of a light distribution system and a multi-channel version of the front-end board.
