Treatment guidelines of metastatic colorectal cancer in older patients from the French Society of Geriatric Oncology (SoFOG)
2020
International audience; Background: Several guidelines dedicated to metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) are available. Since 2013 no recent guidelines are specifically dedicated to older patients and based on a systematic review. Materials and methods: A multidisciplinary Task Force with digestive oncologists, geriatricians and methodologists from the SoFOG was formed in 2016 to update recommendations on medical treatment of mCRC based on a systematic review of publications from 2000 to 2018. Search strategy has followed a standardized protocol from the formulation of clinical questions and definition of a search algorithm to the selection of complete articles for recommendations. Results: …
The effectiveness of the Feldenkrais method: a systematic review of the evidence
2014
The Feldenkrais Method (FM) has broad application in populations interested in improving awareness, health, and ease of function. This review aimed to update the evidence for the benefits of FM, and for which populations. A best practice systematic review protocol was devised. Included studies were appraised using the Cochrane risk of bias approach and trial findings analysed individually and collectively where possible. Twenty RCTs were included (an additional 14 to an earlier systematic review). The population, outcome, and findings were highly heterogeneous. However, meta-analyses were able to be performed with 7 studies, finding in favour of the FM for improving balance in ageing populati…

Current research demonstrates beneficial effects of physical activity on brain functions and cognitive performance. To date, less is known on the effects of gross motor movements that do not fall into the category of sports-related aerobic or anaerobic exercise. In previous studies, we found beneficial effects of dynamic working environments, i.e., environments that encourage movements during cognitive task performance, on cognitive performance and corresponding brain activity. Aim of the present study was to examine the effects of working in a dynamic and a static office environment on attentional and vigilance performance, and on the corresponding electroencephalographic (EEG) brain oscil…
Can neurophysiological markers of anticipation and attention predict ADHD severity and neurofeedback outcomes?
2021
Abstract Neurophysiological measures of preparation and attention are often atypical in ADHD. Still, replicated findings that these measures predict which patients improve after Neurofeedback (NF), reveal neurophysiological specificity, and reflect ADHD-severity are limited. Methods We analyzed children’s preparatory (CNV) and attentional (Cue-P3) brain activity and behavioral performance during a cued Continuous Performance Task (CPT) before and after slow cortical potential (SCP)-NF or semi-active control treatment (electromyogram biofeedback). Mixed-effects models were performed with 103 participants at baseline and 77 were assessed for pre-post comparisons focusing on clinical outcome p…
Head-to-head comparison of contemporary heart failure risk scores.
2021
Altres ajuts: acords transformatius de la UAB Aims: Several heart failure (HF) web-based risk scores are currently used in clinical practice. Currently, we lack head-to-head comparison of the accuracy of risk scores. This study aimed to assess correlation and mortality prediction performance of Meta-Analysis Global Group in Chronic Heart Failure (MAGGIC-HF) risk score, which includes clinical variables + medications; Seattle Heart Failure Model (SHFM), which includes clinical variables + treatments + analytes; PARADIGM Risk of Events and Death in the Contemporary Treatment of Heart Failure (PREDICT-HF) and Barcelona Bio-Heart Failure (BCN-Bio-HF) risk calculator, which also include biomarke…
Correlation between basal bilirubin levels and survival in advanced colorectal carcinoma treated with CPT-11-based chemotherapy: A study of the Grupp…
2008
AbstractBackgroundThis study was carried out to evaluate total basal bilirubin levels as a predictive factor for survival and toxicity in patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma treated with CTP-11-based regimens.Patients and methodsThe analysis was carried out on a data base including 287 patients affected by advanced colorectal carcinoma all treated with CPT-11 plus bolus and continuous venous infusion intravenous folinic acid and 5-fluorouracil on a biweekly schedule (FOLFIRI regimen). Patients were divided into four groups according to basal bilirubin levels as follows: 0.50 and 1.00 and 1.50mg/dl. Analysis of overall median survival and time-to-progression were correlated to perfor…
A meta-analysis of survival rates of untreated patients in randomized clinical trials of hepatocellular carcinoma.
2010
Knowing the spontaneous outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is important for designing randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of new therapeutic approaches; however, survival of patients in the absence of treatment is highly variable, and prognostic factors influencing outcomes are incompletely defined. The aims of this meta-analysis were to estimate the 1-year and 2-year survival rates of untreated HCC patients enrolled in RCTs of palliative treatments, and to identify prognostic factors. RCTs evaluating therapies for HCC with placebo or no-treatment arms were identified on MEDLINE through April 2009. Data were combined in a random effect model. Primary outcomes were 1-year and 2-year s…
Compatibility of irinotecan-loaded DC Bead with different volumes and types of non-ionic contrast media.
2015
Objectives Irinotecan-loaded microspheres are used for simultaneous embolisation and chemotherapy of liver metastases of colorectal carcinoma. The aim of the study was to evaluate the compatibility of recently introduced DC Bead M1 (bead size 70–150 µm) loaded with irinotecan after admixture with different types and volumes of non-ionic contrast media over a maximum period of 24 h and storage at room temperature. Methods Test suspensions were prepared by loading 2 mL DC Bead M1 with 100 mg irinotecan within 2 h. The loading efficiency was determined by measuring the concentrations of irinotecan in the excess solutions via a reversed phase high pressure liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) assay …
Survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhosis: a comparison of BCLC, CLIP and GRETCH staging systems
2008
Summary Background A major problem in assessing the likelihood of survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) arises from a lack of models capable of predicting outcome accurately. Aim To compare the ability of the Italian score (CLIP), the French classification (GRETCH) and the Barcelona (BCLC) staging system in predicting survival in patients with HCC. Methods We included 406 consecutive patients with cirrhosis and HCC. Seventy-eight per cent of patients had hepatitis C. Independent predictors of survival were identified using the Cox model. Results One-hundred and seventy-eight patients were treated, while 228 were untreated. The observed mortality was 60.1% in treated p…
Motor and Cognitive Performance in Patients with Liver Cirrhosis with Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy
2020
Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) is associated with mild cognitive impairment and frailty. This study aims to identify cognitive and motor differences in cirrhotic patients with and without MHE, and the correlations between motor signs and cognitive performance. Gait, balance, hand strength and motor speed performance were evaluated in 66 cirrhotic patients (38 without and 28 with MHE, according to the Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score (PHES). Cognitive performance was measured with the Mini-Mental State Examination, Verbal Fluency Test, Aprendizaje Verbal España-Complutense Test (TAVEC), Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale III, Hamilton Depression and Anxiety Rating Scale and Fun…
